UFC Officially Signs Jake Shields: He Will Face Martin Kampmann in Debut
Last week, GracieFighter.com reported that Jake Shields had signed with the organization, but reports soon surfaced that the signing had yet to take place. However, it is now official and Shields is a fighter in the worlds premier mixed martial arts organization.
Earlier today, Damon Martin of MMAWeekly.com first reported that Jake Shields confirmed to him that he is now indeed a welterweight in the UFC.
In addition, Shields announced via his Twitter account that he signed his contract and fellow top ten ranked welterweight, Martin Kampmann will be his first opponent.
Shields last competed for Strikeforce, where he was the middleweight champion, and last defeated Dan Henderson to retain that title in April.
With this signing, the UFC adds a high level jiu-jitsu black belt and top ten welterweight that is riding a 14-fight win streak to its roster. His first match will be at UFC 121 in Anaheim, California.
