Roach Says Manny Pacquiao Is Unbeatable Against Cotto or Margarito
Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach believes Manny Pacquiao will win hands down against either Antonio Magarito or Miguel Cotto in the upcoming Pacquiao fight scheduled for November 13.
But the popular trainer says he prefers Antonio Margarito over Miguel Cotto as Manny Pacquiao's next opponent.
“A hundred percent,” Roach told The Ring magazine’s on-line edition when staffer Michael Rosenthal suggested that the Mexican warrior charging into Pacquiao “would be as if Margarito would be walking into a meat grinder.”
Miguel Cotto has already tasted Pacquiao's fury when they fought last year which ended in the 12th round TKO win by the pound-for-pound king, Roach added.
The Mexican-American boxer who remains ineligible to fight in the US on account of his alleged use of illegal hand wraps during his last encounter with Shane Mosley in California, may be considered a mismatch for Pacquiao due to his much superior natural built.
Margarito stands at 5'11" with a reach of 73 inches against Pacquiao's 5'6.5" and a reach of 67". Clearly Margarito has a whooping six inch advantage in reach and almost five inches in height.
Margarito, who is fresh from his victory over Roberto Garcia last May 8, is 32 years old and an orthodox boxer while Pacquiao who 31 years old is a southpaw.
During the Bernabe Concepcion-Juan Manuel Lopez fight in Puerto Rico a few days ago, Pacquiao's Canadian adviser Michael Koncz said he met with the handlers of Miguel Cotto and discussed the proposed Pacsquiao-Cotto rematch at the Junior middleweight division where Cotto is now campaigning.
With the failed Pacquiao-Mayweather fight negotiation which ended midnight last Friday, it is possible that a fight contract can be made within 10 days beginning Friday last week between Pacquiao and Cotto or Margarito.
The 10-day time line was announced by Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum during his conference call right after the deadline set for Mayweather for him to affix his signature on the contract.
