Michael Bush vs. Darren McFadden: Fantasy Football Backfield Breakdown

Early in this fantasy season, there is one question out there fantasy owners are having a tough time making up their minds about: which Raider is the right one to grab as we approach draft time?

Another aspect of this debate is if the Raider who ends up being the bell cow, who could push your team up and over the top. 

The reason why most owners are debating this is because the starter will end up getting drafted later than where he should.

This is just a bonus since an increase in their value just makes you look like you got a steal. After all, thousand yard backs don’t exactly grow on trees after the second or third round.

The problem is which of the Raider running backs is going to emerge?

Michael Bush is a popular sleeper candidate this year among fantasy experts, while Darren McFadden is the phenom who hasn’t yet shown us much of anything after such a promising career at the University of Arkansas.

He was a can’t-miss prospect and was drafted fourth overall by the Oakland Raiders in 2008. He was supposed to be the next great Raider running back.

Michael Bush came out of the University of Louisville, broke his leg his senior year and was drafted in the fourth round in 2007.

He was an afterthought in most people’s minds.

He had talent, but was considered too slow and plodding for the NFL.

He has been exactly what the Raider’s need in terms of a runner. He is a between-the-tackles mauler and a guy that needs 20 carries to really get going.

Bush knows how to soften up a defense, and he can catch out of the backfield as evidenced by his days at Louisville. He was a former quarterback so he can also throw the rock.

Darren McFadden was the speed-type back, the between-the-tackles slasher that was so often on display as he ran the Wildcat offense for the Razorbacks.

Many thought he wouldn’t miss a beat going to the NFL as his running style screamed NFL talent.

He also can catch out of the backfield and throw the football, so that to me is a wash when comparing their receiving and throwing skills. He has been a disappointment thus far to say the least at the NFL level.
