Pregame 7-17-10 Mets Vs Giants 9:05 P.M.
After their second straight shutout loss to the Giants, this time at the hands of Barry Zito, the Mets will look to get on the board against Matt Cain tonight at 9:05. I’m still amazed that after being shut out on Thursday Jerry Manuel thought it best to sit his hottest hitter (Angel Pagan) in favor of Carlos Beltran. With Jose Reyes out, the move left no true leadoff batter atop the line-up and the job fell into the lap of 20-year old Ruben Tejada. Tejada did manage one of the Mets 3 hits on the night but was later caught stealing and the team was only able to get 1 runner in scoring position on the night.
While the team has now been shut out 3 of their last 4 games, the outlook against Cain may not seem as bleak as one might think. The Giant’s righty has an ERA of over 6.75 over his last 3 starts and several of the Met’s ‘big’ bats have faired quite well against him in the past:
