Z-Cap: Giants 1 Mets 0

Metszilla.comJul 16, 2010

Barry Zito and closer Brian Wilson combined to allow just 3 hits as the S.F. Giants defeated the New York Mets 1-0, shutting out the Mets for the second consecutive game in the process. Barry Zito out dueled Mets rookie Jonathan Niese (7 IP, 1 ER) in the battle of the southpaws, improving to 8-4 while striking out a season high 10 batters and allowing 2 hits over 8 dominate innings work. Zito retired the first 9 batters he faced before allowing a single to center to start the top of the 4th to Mets short stop, Ruben Tejada. He did not allow another hit until the top of the 7th when Carlos Beltran hit a 2 out bloop double becoming the only Met to touch second base on the night.

NY has now scored 3 or less runs in their last 7 games and have been shut out in 3 of their last 4.  The team is a dismal 9 for 59 (.152) in the first 2 games of this series and a putrid 3-40 (.075 AVG.) in their last 6 games with RISP ( Runners In Stranded Position).
