My Letter To D. Wright...
Dear David Wright,
I am sure you will be proud to hear (or at least we’d like to think) that you’ve won the first ever ‘The Zilla’ award for first half team MVP. ‘The Zilla First Half MVP’ is given to the player who we believe was the best performer (offensively) and “most valuable” to this team through out the first half. This was an extremely difficult decision for us to make since there were many players who qualified for this prestigious award.
Some of the top nominees included power hitting outfielder Jason Bay. Bay is 14 for his last 69 (.205 AVG) with 2 HR dating back to June 18th, while ending the first half with an impressive 6 HR, and .265 AVG. Talk about bang for your buck. With numbers like that it’s starting to become evident that the Mets stole him from the Red Sox at a garage sale price of 4yrs/$66 million.

Another nominee was Jeff ‘Face’ Francoeur (.253 AVG, 8 HR). Jeff has instituted patience to his game this season with a grand total of 19 BB in 293 at-bats (302 OBP). Frenchy (weird since he was born in Atlanta) has been streakier than Will Ferrel in ‘Old School’ with monthly averages of .284/April, .211/May, .310/June, .152/July. But, he does have an incredible smile so that has to count for something.
