Manny Pacquiao's Top Three Challengers for His November Fight Schedule

Leo ReyesJul 15, 2010

On the assumption that Floyd Mayweather Jr. declines Manny Pacquiao's offer to be his opponent on the Filipino boxer's scheduled November fight, a survey was conducted by this writer in his July 13 article on B/R entitled "Other than Mayweather, Who Should Manny Pacquiao Fight in November?"

Readers of B/R were asked this question: "Who among the following boxers deserve to be Pacquiao's opponent in November?"

Top three answers were:

Colts Jaguars Football

1. Miguel Cotto, with 24 percent of total respondents

2. Andre Berto, with 22 percent

3. Juan Manuel Marquez, with 18 percent

Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, Tim Bradley and Devon Alexander garnered less than 12 percent of the votes.

A total of 568 respondents participated in the poll. For complete breakdown of poll result, please read the article with this poll here.

It is interesting to note that B/R respondents gave Berto a favorable endorsement of 22 percent against Juan Manuel Marquez who got only 18 percent.

Antonio Margarito, who is Bob Arum's second choice to Miguel Cotto, got less than 12 percent of the total votes.

Some readers mentioned Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez as possible opponents of Pacquiao, but their names were not frequently mentioned by the promoters, hence they were not included in the survey.

From the result of the survey, it appears that Cotto is the most popular choice of survey respondents to face Pacquiao in November for a rematch.

One of the respondents commented on the Pacquiao-Cotto rematch. He asked: "Could someone please tell me a genuine reason why Pac would fight Cotto again?"

The answer probably would be Pacquiao's quest for his eight division championship crown, a feat that no professional boxer has achieved in this generation.

Pacquiao has to move up in weight to face Cotto in the junior middleweight division in order to break his seven division winning streak.
