Yankees Announcer Michael Kay Has out-Kicked His Coverage

New York Yankees announcer Michael Kay and News 12 Long Island's Jody Applegate are engaged, according to Joel Sherman of the Post.

The mismatch isn't lost on Kay. He told his ESPN radio listeners how he felt about Applegate before he told her because:

Applegate was his idea of the "perfect woman," "so perfect" that he couldn't bring himself to talk to her.

It makes me sick to say this, but that's borderline adorable.

Applegate wound up calling into the show that day and speaking to Kay on air for a lengthy 12-minute segment. They became a couple a few months later. I wonder how Kay feels about all those pre-nuptial superstitions. 

In other Kay news, he managed to avoid both lists in GQ online's best and worst MLB broadcast booths. Former Yankee announcer Dewayne Staats wasn't as fortunate.
