John Molina Scores Exciting KO Win, Charges Back In Lightweight Mix

Tyler CurtisJul 9, 2010

John Molina was getting beat round in and round out. Then he threw a punch out of nowhere and had Hank Lundy on his back.

He controlled most of round seven and clearly won round nine with the knockdown. The fight was getting tight and Molina was stepping it up.

The fight was finally ended in round 11 and was stopped somewhat prematurely. He had officially put himself back into the mix at lightweight.

After losing a tough fight to Martin Honorio two fights ago Molina finds himself right back in the mix. He is a young, exciting fighter who at times is crude but never gives up. He is an all action fighter who comes to battle every night and isn’t an easy fight for anyone. He also shows up in shape and most importantly he can bang.

He has 16 knockouts in his 20 wins and showed his power tonight with a crushing right hand that put Lundy on his pants. He also has great determination which he showed tonight. Early on it looked like he was going to get whitewashed by Lundy.

As the fight progressed his pressure got to Lundy and he started to get to him more. He got hit with a lot of shots early but kept his composure and stuck to his game plan.

He knew he had the heavier hands and knew he could get to Lundy and stop him if he kept the pressure up. Molina is a fun guy to watch and he will be able to keep television audiences interested.

He also has problems he needs to fix if he wants to win a title. He needs to shore up his defense and utilize his jab more. He is a very strong lightweight but sometimes he forgets his fundamentals. Molina is more fighter than boxer, that’s for sure.

With this win Molina needs to get close to a title shot fast. He is 27 years old and the defeat of Lundy is his best win to date.

Lundy is a good prospect but isn’t near the title level. A fight with the loser of the Anthony Peterson-Brandon Rios fight would be perfect. The winner of that fight is in line for a WBA title shot so the loser is at the title level. Molina is a big strong lightweight and the kind that can make some noise.

Tonight Molina got himself a career defining win and looks to have a good future ahead. He won the WBO NABO lightweight title tonight.

Molina is also a very good personality out of the ring and the kind of guy you want to see win.

The stoppage was debatable but one thing was not, Molina turned the tide of the fight with his grit and power.

So again John Molina is the new WBO NABO lightweight champion with a TKO 11.
