Nothing Runs Like the John Deere Classic: A Great Tournament to Visit
It would be nice for an American player to win the John Deere Classic, to be played at the TPC Course in Silvis, Illinois starting Thursday, July 8.
At Deere Run, accuracy is rewarded with accessible pins, and birdies galore, and low scorers will have plenty of company this weekend, barring inclement weather.
Steve Stricker won this event last year. Coincidentally, before I checked, I selected him to my Yahoo Fantasy Golf Team this week.
He looked like the best choice and has not missed any cuts at all in events played.
Many players are starting to travel to Britain in anticipation of the upcoming British Open at St. Andrews, the Olde Course.
This field could be stronger, but it is what it is.
My B-player will be K.J. Choi, who could be one of the players in the hunt on Sunday for sure. Solid play all season has netted many fantasy golf points from Mr. Choi.
My other B-player will be Jeff Overton. With two seconds, and three third-place finishes this season, he is due in a big way. This could be the week of destiny for Jeff Overton.
In my C-player fantasy position will be Tim Clark, who always plays well when Tiger does not show up. Yes, really.
His back-up, in case of massive failure, will be Joe Durant, who I know nothing about, and have picked him for no reason whatsoever.
Currently, I am ahead of all the Yahoo Golf Experts, save one, the pesky Matt Romig.
For the season so far, I have 3825 points, 84th percentile dropping a point last week, and 23,546 in the rankings. Romig has me by 90 points, which has been pretty constant give or take 10-20 points for about three months now.
I passed all the others, but Romig seems more in tune with the winners this season, like myself.
Alrighty now, John Deere Classic, Stricker, Choi, Overton, Clarke, sounds like a plan.
