The Greek God: Sotiropoulos Climbing the Lightweight Ladder

Michael CaligiuriJul 5, 2010

With UFC 116 done and dusted, we saw some pivotal moments unfold. Brock Lesnar was crowned the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion and Chris Leben Won his second fight in as many weeks. But the story that came out of the event which intrigued me the most was this.

George Sotiropoulos won his lightweight fight extending his unbeaten UFC streak to seven fights, surely throwing him into the mix as a contender for the title.

Sotiropoulos took care of Business with an unanimous decision win against the highly regarded Kurt Pellegrino. Sotiropoulos dictated the fight with his stand-up, utilising the jab and also scoring while on the mat with his high level ground-game.

With this win, George Sotiropoulos has gotten the attention and respect of the rest of the fighters in the lightweight division. Even UFC president, Dana White, was quoted saying that Sotiropoulos "impressed him" in the post event press conference.

So who is next for the Australian to take on? I presume that he would face another quality opponent before having a chance at either Frankie Egar or BJ Penn, a fight which George will be watching attentively.
