Vincent Jackson Suspended: Is This The End Of a Tenure In San Diego?

Old AccountJul 1, 2010

Is Vincent Jackson's career in a San Diego uniform officially over?

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Vincent Jackson has been suspended by the NFL for three games due to a DUI a couple of months ago.

Jackson has always had a questionable account, but the NFL made their stance with the suspension.

So, now what does this do for the Chargers?

Jackson is upset with his current contract situation, and has threatened to hold out until week six.

With more teams reportedly showing vast interest in Jackson, it is possible we are going to see one more blockbuster deal to end the year.

And why not? Receiver Santonio Holmes got into trouble with the law while in a Steelers uniform, and was entering the final year of his contract.

What happened? A trade to the Jets came in a blink of an eye.

However, this is much different, and in my opinion, an easier situation for the Chargers front office.

Unlike Albert Haynesworth, Jackson has not participated in teams camps as training camp is less than a month away.

With teams like the Seahawks and Redskins showing a lot of interest, along with about three other teams, why not get something while you can?

Soon enough it is going to be a team distraction, and create bad chemistry within the locker room. Having Jackson around the players, including the new rookies, can create drama.

We are looking at a team that already deals with high expectations, and has failed to live up to them in the past.

For now, this is a playoff team with or without Jackson.

Is it tempting? Sure it is.

Jackson is one heck of a player, and like many other stars, I see why he wants more money.

If a first round pick, or multiple picks plus a player is there, the Chargers have to jump on it.

The tenure in San Diego is over. The Chargers don't feel he is worth the money, and need to part ways.

It is better for both sides if Vincent Jackson moves on to a team that is willing to give him money similar to some of the best receivers in the game.
