Big Z to the Big Apple?: Why Carlos Zambrano Could End Up with the New York Mets

After his latest tirade, it appears that Carlos Zambrano will be on his way out of Chicago. This difficulty in this, however, may be finding a suitor for Big Z.

So far this season, Zambrano has become the most expensive relief pitcher in major league history, he has gone on multiple tirades in the dugout, and he has struggled, posting a career-high 5.66 ERA.

Zambrano has two years and $35.875 million remaining on his contract. He also has a $19.25 million vesting option for 2013, which he will get if he finishes first or second in the 2011 Cy Young voting or in the top four of the 2012 Cy Young voting.

Along with all of his issues, his contract makes Zambrano nearly impossible to trade. However, there may be one team that would be a suitor.

The New York Mets could look into acquiring Zambrano. They have a few fairly expensive headaches of their own. The Mets have been looking for ways to trade Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo, and John Maine.

Perez struggled in the majors this year, posting an 0-3 record with a 6.28 ERA. He only has one year and $12 million left on his contract after this season.
