New York Yankees Prospect Andrew Brackman Promoted to Double-A

Bronx Baseball DailyJun 25, 2010

According to Josh Norris of the Trentonian , the Yankees have promoted their 2007 first-round draft pick RHP Andrew Brackman to Double-A Trenton and he will start tonight.

I’ve written about Brackman recently , as he seems to have turned a corner in his development. He’s pitched in 12 games this season with a 5-4 record and a 5.10 ERA, but he has pitched better as the season has progressed to the point of domination at High-A Tampa. His last start was actually a rough one, but before that he had won five times in six games and recently struck out 11 in six innings.

Brackman is on a major league contract andthe 40-man roster, so the Yankees could be aggressive with his development. I initially thought that he wouldn’t sniff the majors until 2012, but a month ago it was hard to imagine him being promoted to Double-A so soon.

With this promotion, it is possible that he could be in the majors at some point next year. How soon exactly that will be is going to be determined by how quickly he adjusts to Double-A hitters.

At this point, I wouldn’t rule out another promotion this season, but it is unlikely. If he gets that promotion, then Brackman could be a possibility for a mid-season call-up next year.
