MLB Betting: New York Mets vs. New York Yankees Prediction: June 20th 2010

Our Sunday MLB predictions take us to the Bronx where the New York Mets and New York Yankees will close out the second round of their 2010 Interleague betting series.

The Mets entered Friday night’s series opener simply on fire having rattled off seven straight victories in after most recently disposing of the Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles in Interleague betting play. Though the competition hasn’t been the toughest, the Mets have parlayed the weak schedule into sneaking right back into the NL East race; they currently trail the Atlanta Braves by just half a game entering Friday’s action. They’ll be up against it tonight however away from their comfy ball park where they’ve compiled a 24-10 (+$1224) record on the year; manager Jerry Manuel’s squad has won just 14 of their 32 played road games (-$223) to date.

The Yankees had rattled off nine straight home wins up until the defending NL Champion Philadelphia Phillies paid the Bronx a visit earlier in the week. After cruising to a 8-3 win against Roy Halladay in the series opener, the Yankees went on to drop each of the next two to lose a series at home for only the second time this season. Overall, manager Joe Girardi’s men have won 23 of their 33 overall home games this season. New York stands 5-4 (-$220) in 2010 Interleague betting action, and it sat tied atop the AL East along with the Tampa Bay Rays going into Friday.

The Mets are yet to see their investment in Johan Santana pay much of any dividends since management threw a boatload of cash at him to come over from the American League. He enters his 15th start of the season 5-3 overall with a 3.13 ERA & 1.21 WHIP having allowed 81 hits and 32 ER’s through 92 IP. The Mets are just 7-7 with him leading their charge this season. He did however finally scratch out a victory after failing to do so in his previous three starts his last time out vs. Cleveland.Though he gave up seven hits and four ER’s through his seven IP, the Mets offense provided him with just enough offense to pull out the “W”. NY is just 2-5 in his seven road starts this season, and he was gutted by the Bronx Bombers in this venue last season allowing nine runs in just three innings or work.

C.C. Sabathia improved to 7-3 his last time out after outdueling former “Yankees Killer” Roy Halladay in the teams series opener against the Phillies. Though he wasn’t his sharpest, the burly lefty managed to gut out seven innings while allowing five hits and three ER’s. He’s an impressive 4-0 in six Yankee Stadium starts this season where his ERA is 3.07 and his WHIP is 0.95. Opponents are batting .240 against him on the year, but he’s allowed no more than three ER’s in any of his L/3 starts. He’ll be looking to avenge the loss he absorbed back on May 23rd at Citi Field where the Mets touched him up for 10 hits and six runs (5 ER) through just five IP. Sabs is 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in three lifetime starts against the in-state rival Mets.

MLB Insider Tip: With the Mets winning the first go round between these teams at the end of May, it halted the “Bronx Bombers” series winning streak at three. That won’t sit well with A-Rod and company, and you know C.C will be out for blood after the way the Mets lit him up in Flushing.The Yankees entered this series 14-6 their L/20 overall Interleague betting match-ups, and are an unbelievable 61-18 their L/79 home games. With this afternoon battle likely being the rubber match, my MLB betting predictions have the Yankees coming out on top in a big way behind a brilliant performance from Sabathia.
