Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Detroit Tigers MLB Betting Prediction: June 19th 2010

Our Saturday night MLB predictions take us to Comerica Park where the Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers will partake in the second game of their Interleague betting series.

After picking up a solid home series win against the NL Central leading St. Louis Cardinals, the Snakes hit the road for Fenway Park to take on the Boston Red Sox in a three-game series. Unfortunately for manager A.J. Hinch’s squad, it lost all momentum as the BoSox busted out the brooms and swept them right out of Beantown. The defeat dropped the D’Backs to a sickening 9-25 (-$1354) as a visitor this season, and they’ve failed to tally a series win on the road in each of their L/6 tries. Entering Friday night’s series opener, AZ has dropped 13 consecutive games on the road.

The Tigers looked to be unraveling at the seams from late May through early June, but manager Jimmy Leyland’s squad has recently caught fire to propel itself right back into the thick of the AL Central race. As of Friday, the Tigers trailed the division leading Minnesota Twins by just 1.5-games and sat 4.5-games in back of the AL Wild Card leading Tampa Bay Rays. Detroit has cashed tickets for its MLB betting backers in each of its L/6 contests as favorites, and enters its 35th home game of the season 23-10 (+$1124) with Friday night’s game pending.

Edwin Jackson’s 15th start of the season will come against his former mates in a venue he performed admirably in throughout his one year stay in Detroit. After experiencing decent success each of the L/2 seasons (27-20), Jackson has struggled mightily in the NL going 3-6 with a 5.18 ERA & 1.43 WHIP; opponents are batting .276 against him overall. He has however churned out quality starts in four of his L/6 overall outings with the last one coming at home against St. Louis in which he held the Redbirds to a pair of ER’s through 6.2 IP. The righty seems to be coming around of late after getting off to a slow start. Though he’s failed to earn a decision, he sports a 2.49 ERA & 1.38 WHIP allowing 20 hits and only six ER’s through his L/21.2 innings of work.

Opposing the hit or miss hurler will be the Tigers Rick Porcello whose in the midst of suffering from a nasty sophomore slump. The sinkerballer has gotten ripped apart by the opposition evidenced by his .324 batting average against, and he’s been truly awful of late. In his most recent outing vs. Chicago back on the 13th, he got raked to the tune of eight hits (2 HR) and eight ER’s through just 3.1 total innings pitched. He’s 0-2 with a 7.80 ERA & 1.67 WHIP his L/3 outings. The Tigers do however boast a winning mark with him leading their charge at home (4-3) this baseball betting season, and they’re also a perfect 5-0 in his five career Interleague starts.

MLB Insider Tip: Surprisingly, the Diamondbacks have held the upper hand in this NL/AL rivalry of late winning six of the L/9 overall confrontations. While Edwin Jackson hasn’t been the greatest since packing his bags for the National League, he certainly comes into this match-up in much better form than his opponent. With him very familiar with Comerica’s environment, I look for him to snap his three-game no decision streak and register a tally in the win column on the road for the first time since the middle of May. My MLB predictions look for the Tigers to be way overvalued in this spot, so take the solid +$$$ return on the Snakes all the way to the betting window!
