Here’s a look at some unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

Tyler Colvin, Chicago Cubs
Colvin went 2 for 4 with a HR and 3 RBIs. He’s hitting .315 with 8 HRs and 20 RBIs for the season. He did the damage out of the leadoff spot, which would certainly help his value if he were to get regular ABs there.

 

Brandon Inge, Detroit Tigers
Inge went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and an RBI (28) to raise his average to .264.

 

Delmon Young, Minnesota Twins
Delmon is on fire. He went 3 for 4 with 2 runs to raise his average to .302.

 

Edwin Encarnacion, Toronto Blue Jays
Encarnacion went 2 for 2 with a HR (9) and 3 RBIs (22). He’s hitting just .204.

 

Mike Stanton, Florida Marlins
The prized rookie smacked a Grand Slam for his first career HR.

 

Ronny Paulino, Florida Marlins
Paulino collected 3 hits to raise his average to .313.

 

Melky Cabrera, Atlanta Braves
Melky went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and an RBI. He’s hitting .259 with 18 RBIs.

 

Hisanori Takahashi, New York Mets (pictured)
Takahashi continues to get it done. He held the Yankees scoreless through 6 innings, giving up just 4 hits to improve to 6-2 with a 3.13 ERA. He has blanked the Yankees for 12 straight innings.

 

Javier Vazquez, New York Yankees
Vazquez took the loss despite allowing just 1 run on 3 hits over 7 innings. He fell to 6-6, but lowered his ERA to 5.01 for the year.

 

Justin Smoak, Texas Rangers

Skip Schumaker, St. Louis Cardinals
