Bold MLB Predictions for Second-Half

Cliff Lee for a power hitter or no deal.

Jeff EngelsJun 15, 2010

I know many of you are beginningย to think about next year already even though it isnโ€™t even officially summer yet. I feel compelled to come out with what is my position on the possible/probable trade of Cliff Lee and what we need to get in return as Iโ€™m beginning to read some odd speculations from different sites. Ok so here is the deal I love Cliff Lee he is great, but the Mariners are not so far this year and thus I think it is safe to say we are out of contention. The good news is that there are plenty of other teams in contention that are in desperate need of aย pitcher like Cliff Lee.

ย ย ย  We are in the driverโ€™s seat on this one folks, we do not need to settle for our usual Seattle Mariners deal where we give up proven talent for a handful of prospects that never pan-out. Now Jack Z. has one more chance to restore some faith in this organization and play it cool and wait. I know that is hard for us fans as there really is not anything going on down on the field that is asย exciting as this whole Cliff Lee deal. But we need to be patient and let the other teams that are in contention blink first.

ย ย  We need to get a POWER BAT for Cliff Lee. Repeatย  a POWER Bat for Cliff Lee. We have tried to win with good starting pitching and discovered you need offense to. So any silly talk about getting this pitcher or that pitcher just does not make sense. Look if we could not win with Cliff Lee in the rotation, then someone tell me what getting another pitcher who will undoubtably be worse than Lee will do for this team? Ok so maybe you are thinking that any team in contention will not trade away a genuine slugger ie the real deal proven 30+ homers and 100 RBI guy. Well fear not as Jack Z. can always try the three team trade.

ย ย  I was going to wait to start the Cliff Lee talk for another week or so but Iโ€™m so tired of Seattle Mariners trades that go bad that I thought Id throw in myย two cents now. Bottom line is we do not need to settle for less if we are patient. Because let me assure you once we get closer to the trade deadline one of these teams will make an offer we canโ€™t refuse under the pressure from their Fan-base and just from the excitement of the pennant race. I have been a bit shocked to read some of the speculation on other sites that does not even mention getting a real power hitter for Lee. This coming from the same people who have been clamoring for a power hitter in the line-up for the past 6 months. Are we falling into some sort of collective amnesia here?

ย ย  So this is my position on the Cliff Lee situation,ย and Iโ€™m sticking to it. We have the leverage for once and need to be patient and smart and perhaps we can salvage something out of this year yet. http://jeffsmariners.com
