After working the count full, Padres centerfielder Chris Denofriahit a double to right field to lead off the 3rd inning. That is literally the only thing you need to know about San Diego's offensive production in game 2 of today's double-header at Citi Field. The Mets 3-0 victory was the teams' 6th in their last 8 games and completed their 9th straight winning home series. The driving force behind all the numbers was 23 year old lefty Jonathon Niese.
Niese, the Mets 'other pitcher' from a 2005 draft that saw them select Mike Pelfrey #9 overall, was selected in the 7th round (#209) out of Defiance High School. MLB.com's analysis on the Mets selection:
