MLB Betting: Best Baseball Teams To Bet The “Under” – June 8th 2010

Handicappers PicksJun 7, 2010

‘Under’ is still the word for a ton of teams on the diamond this season, and there is no reason to believe that that won’t continue into the summer for many. The teams on this week’s MLB odds list of ‘under’ teams may surprise you though!

Season Standings
1.Baltimore Orioles (34-20-3) – No one should be surprised to see the worst team in baseball on this list, though! The Orioles just can’t string runs together to save their lives, especially on the road at this point, and it ultimately finally cost manager Dave Trembley his job. Until further notice, Baltimore is a team that you really can’t bet the ‘over’ with unless you’re convinced that it is the team giving up all of the runs.

2.St. Louis Cardinals (34-21-2) – The Redbirds surprisingly held their ‘totals’ low against the high-flying Brew Crew this weekend. Relief pitcher Jason Motte had retired 32 straight batters before giving up the game-winning run in the tenth inning last night against Milwaukee. Still, the pitching staff has a 2.98 ERA through a third of the season, a feat which hasn’t been matched by any other team in baseball.

3.Chicago Cubs (30-19-6) – For the second time this week, Chicago is going to have to go back to Pittsburgh to finish a three game series that was washed away over Memorial Day week. The oddsmakers haven’t hung a ‘total’ above 8.5 in a Cubs game since May 23rd, but the ‘unders’ just keep on rolling in. Just be careful for when the wind starts blowing out like crazy at Wrigley Field over the course of the summer.

Who’s Hot?
1.Colorado Rockies (5-1)
– Thanks, Ubaldo! RHP Ubaldo Jimenez just seems to be a certain victory and a surefire ‘under’ every time he takes the hill thanks to the fact that his ERA “ballooned” up to 0.93 over the weekend. The rest of the staff has done its job as well, particularly in a week in which the Rockies only conceded an average of 2.57 runs per game. With Houston’s woeful offense coming to town, those numbers may only get better over these next four days.

2.New York Yankees (4-2-1) – The Blue Jays made a bit of a statement to the Yankees over the weekend, holding them to just seven runs in three games. That makes four out of six games being held under four runs for New York. Don’t look for that streak to continue this week, though. Our guess is that the Bronx Bombers are going to embarrass the heck out of the pitching staffs of the Orioles and Astros in what should be very low ‘totals’ thanks to the fact that these are the two worst offenses in baseball.

3.Detroit Tigers (4-2-1) – In spite of the fact that the Tigers have given up 22 runs over their L/4 games, in three of which they conceded at least six runs, the ‘under’ train is still rolling in D-Town. An offense this talented should be averaging more than 4.33 runs per game, which only ranks 19th in baseball.
