5 Insane Nadal Facts 🤯

Whats Next For Rafa? A Second Wimbledon Title?

Jack JohnsonJun 7, 2010

As of yesterday, I think its almost safe to say that Rafael Nadal is back to his best. His performances at Roland Garros were sensational and captured the hearts of the French crowds once again by winning the slam without dropping a set. As one British commentator said: "Every man wants to play like Federer, but every man wants to be Nadal".

So whats next for the 24 year-old? More Grand Slam titles I think, and where better to improve his tally of seven than at Wimbledon, the place where he missed out on defending the trophy last year due to injury.

Since his return, Nadal had looked a different player and many thought that his 2009 French Open exit to Robin Soderling was haunting him. What followed was the absence of a title for nearly a year but then Monte Carlo came along. Here Nadal secured a sixth straight title and set a new ATP record as he lost only 14 games in five matches.

Then the French Open quickly followed and according to the Spanaird, he hadn't felt confident in his game until he played Jurgen Melzer in the semi-finals. Something that his previous opponents in Paris will question.

As impressive as he was in Paris there will be a couple of questions for Nadal to answer over the next couple of months. Can he look after his knees?, is he still a strong force on grass? and can he beat Federer? The latter something that he has been unable to prove since Madrid in 2009. Wimbledon could prove to be the place where we can really decide whether Rafa is back, but we can safely say that the signs are out for every one to see.

If Nadal was to win his second Wimbledon title, it would not be easy for him. Obviously, we know that Federer is the king of grass, but Andy Roddick will have a say as he looks so comfortable on the green stuff. Andy Murray will be the hope of Britain once again and Soderling may fancy his chances but and I quote from Fernando Verdasco: "If he plays like this, no one can beat him."
