Our Saturday MLB predictions pick up bright and early from the Rogers Centre where the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays will partake in Game 2 of their scheduled three-game weekend series.

New York entered the first game of this baseball betting lines series on Friday night winners of five in a row after they easily swept the putrid Baltimore orioles right out of Yankees Stadium. Manager Joe Girardi’s squad is 8-2 (+$403) their L/10 games and would have made their betting backers even more cash during that stretch if not for falling at home to the Cleveland Indians as gargantuan -315 chalks. They currently trail the AL East leading Tampa Bay Rays by two-games and sit 3.5 games on top of the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card race. New York’s 15-13 on the road in 2010 (-$140).

Toronto entered this series simply heartbroken after it let the last two games of its series with Tampa Bay get away in the ninth inning. The first crippling defeat snapped their four-game winning streak, and they entered Friday night’s game winners in six of their L/10 games played (+$238). The Blue Jays are the second best MLB betting wager in the league (+$1082), but only stand 15-13 at home (+$179) as opposed to 16-11 (+$903) on the road.

Making his 11th start of the season will be lefty Andy Pettitte who storms Toronto with a 7-1 record to go along with a 2.48 ERA & 1.15 WHIP. The Yankees have won nine of his 10 starts this season. He’s coming off a masterful home effort against Cleveland in which he held the Tribe in check to the tune of four hits and one run with 5 K’s through his seven IP. NY’s a perfect 3-0 in his road starts this season where he carries a 1.64 ERA & 1.05 WHIP through 22 IP. Pettitte’s 6-0 with a sparkling 1.12 ERA in six day starts this season, and he went 3-1 against the Blue Jays last season; he’s 15-5 at the Rogers Centre.

Toronto will trot a lefty of its own to the bump to take on the Yanks in the form of Ricky Romero. The southpaw is 5-2 on the year with a 3.14 ERA & 1.20 WHIP having allowed just 64 hits and 27 ER’s to go along with 79 K’s and 29 BB’s through his 77.1 total innings of work. He’s coming off his second complete game of the season after tossing nine innings of one ER ball against the Baltimore Orioles at home. Only two of the 27 outs he recorded were made in the outfield as he continuously had the O’s pounding the ball into the dirt of striking out. He stared back at the Yankees three times last season and gave up a combined 17 hits and 11 ER’s while K’ing 17 and walking 12 through 16.2 IP; he’s 1-1 against them with a 5.94 ERA.

MLB Insider Tip: This is a must win series for the Blue Jays if they’re really to contend in the AL East with the Yankees, Rays, and Red Sox. However, I can’t get in the way of the Yankees machine in this spot with Pettitte leading their charge on the road during the day. Toronto is just 2-6 (-$360) as a home underdog in the +100 to +125 range this season, while the Yankees are 11-8 (-$150) vs. lefties and have hit better against them overall on the year. The Blue Jays look to have a nice team in place, but I’m not sure it’s capable of hanging with the big boys in this division evidenced by their current 9-9 record vs. AL East opponents; they’ve also proven to be better away from their own house.

My MLB predictions have Pettitte improving to a stellar 7-0 in day starts this season and building upon his already impressive 2010 baseball betting resume.
