.New York Mets (32-16, +$1,704) – The Mets have beaten the run-line in seven straight games dating back to a May 19th loss in Washington, so they are on an absolute tear from that standpoint. A pitching staff that has an ERA of 3.64 and dropping is the reason for so many close games. The New York bullpen has done a stellar job of trying to keep games close, and as a result, there are plenty of one run games to go around in the Big Apple. The Mets also haven’t won a one run game in which they were favored since May 8th.

.Toronto Blue Jays (32-17, +$1,571) – For as long as the Blue Jays continue winning games as underdogs and raking in the dough on the moneyline, they are going to be prime candidates for MLB free picks on the run-line as well. Toronto has done almost double the damage to the books for run-line bettors as it has for money bettors this year, mostly because it has already beaten the run-line as favorites of less than -125 seven times in this month alone! Those are a lot of +160 and +170 tickets that are being cashed, as the Jays haven’t won a one-run game that they were favored in since April 20th.
.San Diego Padres (29-18, +$1,015) – A lot of San Diego’s run-line successes have come due to the fact that it is consistently an underdog in games. Yes, it requires choking on a lot of chalk, but just as the oddsmakers haven’t caught up to the fact that the Padres are an undervalued moneyline team, the run-lines are slow to react as well. Especially when they are home underdogs, the Padres are golden against run-lines this year, going 11-4.
.Detroit Tigers (27-19, +$860) – The Tigers are figuring out how to cash in a lot of the big money tickets as short favorites and avoiding the big disasters on the run-line as well. Taking Detroit at +1.5 -180 or something of the sorts this year just hasn’t come back to bite the team at this point very often. Manager Jim Leyland’s team has been on a bit of slide, going just 1-4 in its L/5 games overall, but in that stretch, the squad has only had one crippling run-line defeat, that coming in Saturday’s 6-4 loss in Anaheim.
.New York Yankees (26-21, +$647) – Betting the Bronx Bombers on the run-line is always a popular bet to try to avoid choking on too much moneyline chalk, and at least at this point in the season, the strategy is an effective one. New York is over four units further ahead of the game on run-lines than it is on moneylines this year. In four of the L/5 seasons, the Yanks have done significantly better on the run-line than the moneyline, including in ‘07 when they went -$1,062 on the moneyline and an astonishing +$474 on the run-line.
