Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker, two of golf's biggest winners in the last 18 months, will be competing at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, or, as the players would call it, the Hogan.
One of the greatest golfers of all time, possibly considered in the top three, Ben Hogan came from this dusty Fort Worth, Texas, area, to become a legend.
After a car crash—one that would have killed most people—and horrific injuries, Hogan came back to win a major in one of sports' greatest triumphs.
My A-player activated this week in Yahoo! Fantasy Golf will be Mickelson, with Stricker as the back-up.
My B-player will be K.J. Choi, who has not missed a cut and has three top 10s in 11 events.
Also on my roster this week will be Dustin Johnson, who has been very consistent.
As backup players in case of missed cuts or injuries, I have selected Fredrik Jacobson and Hunter Mahan.
My C-player will be Ben Crane, with Angel Cabrera as his replacement in case of disaster.
Updating my fantasy action in golf, I gained ground all four days of this last event in Irving, at the Byron Nelson. I am now in the 80th percentile with 2,876 points, moving me ahead of three of the four Yahoo! Fantasy Golf experts for the season.
This is a strong team this week, as Stricker won this event last season. I will activate him if Mickelson struggles. Choi is very consistent, and Mahan is due to fire some low scores as well.
In the next event, Tiger Woods is the defending champion at the Memorial, Jack Nicklaus' place, so I hope he defends his title, but a stiff neck may spoil the fun, I suppose.
I think he'd want to defend titles and play through a little neck pain, though.
Please, Tiger—man up, dude!
