New York Yankees Nick Johnson Out Till July
As I am writing this post I am watching Daisuke Matsuzaka get rocked in the first inning against the New York Yankees. Dice-K went from missing bats in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays to throwing batting practice against the Yankees.
To be honest, I am very surprised how flat Dice-K was in that first inning. What I am not surprised about and speaking of the Yankees is that Nick Johnson will miss a significant portion of the season with an injury.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
According to FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal, Johnson will have wrist surgery and will most likely be out until July. And in other news, it rains a lot in Seattle.
This news shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Over his career, Johnson has been on the 15-day DL six times and the 60-day DL three times. He has been the poster boy for an injury prone player.
Johnson hurt his wrist on May 7th against the Boston Red Sox and hasn’t returned to the lineup since. Johnson and the Yankees were hoping that a cortisone shot would help elevate the pain, but that proved unsuccessful.
Johnson was off to a .167 start this year, but did manage a .388 OBP in 24 games. I think this quote by Yankees’ GM Brian Cashman sums up Johnson’s career the best:
"“He’d be a $15 million a year player if he didn’t have this history of injuries,” Cashman said. “Instead, you get what you get. When he’s healthy you’re going to get a real productive bat that’s going to work the count with some pop. But at the same time you have to deal with this, too. I knew what I was getting into when I started this thing. You cross your fingers. Sometimes it works. Right now he’s down.”
"
I think pretty much says it all about Johnson.
