Brennan Boesch Off To A Hot Start In Detroit

Very often during the course of a 162 game schedule, teams will get contributions from unexpected sources. Case in point in Detroit where the Tigers are getting major production from a rookie who wasn’t highly touted coming into the season.

Boesch is off to a hot start in Motown

Entering the season Detroit Tigers’ OF Brennan Boesch wasn’t ranked in the Tigers’ top-10 prospects by Baseball America or Keith Law’s top-10 Tigers’ prospects either. However, Boesch is making quite the name for himself through his first 19 games in the major leagues.

Through those 19 games, Boesch is hitting .380 with three home runs, 19 RBI and has a 1.068 OPS. He is hitting the ball so well that the Tigers are moving Carlos Guillen to second to accommodate Boesch.

Boesch is a big lefty, who goes up to the plate looking to hack. I think if Boesch is going to have a long lasting impact throughout the season, he is going to need to be more patient at the plate.

Once teams get a scouting report on him they are going to see that he looks first pitch fastball and if he gets it, he is going to swing at it. He is going to start seeing first pitch breaking stuff moving forward and the key will be if Boesch can make the adjustment at the major league level.
