Jared Gaither Rumors Have Quieted Down: Is He Staying Put in Baltimore?

Old AccountMay 16, 2010

Last week at the Baltimore Ravens mandatory mini camp, the trading rumors regarding Jared Gaither began.

Gaither, who is looking to be paid as a top left tackle, was moved over to right tackle in favor of Michael Oher.

He then followed up by missing the next two days with an undisclosed foot injury, which brought quite a few questions to many in the Maryland area.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter believed Gaither would be dealt before Week One, and the Buffalo Bills were the leading candidate.

However, one week removed from the controversy, the rumors suddenly died down.

Following the mini camp, general manager Ozzie Newsome said there was no offer that made the club willing enough to deal him.

Since then, we haven't heard a sound of Jared Gaither, the Ravens, or the Buffalo Bills.

So yesterday, via twitter, I asked Aaron Wilson, known as " RavensInsider," on an update on the Gaither rumors, and why they have died down.

He said, "It's real quiet on that one. Nothing brewing I'm told."

Interesting how the rumors just completely stopped. Can it be a combination of the Ravens wanting either a high draft pick, and or a good player in return for Gaither? Teams may not be willing to pay that kind of price at all.

Or are the Ravens actually considering bringing Gaither back for years to come? After all, Gaither has said he would love to be a Raven, and talks probably went on between both parties.

In the interest of the Ravens, it is clear Gaither is the best option for 2010. Having Oher and Gaither on both sides will be crucial for Baltimore's Super Bowl run this season.

However, Gaither can be tagged in the offseason, with the hopes of either trading him then, or signing him to a long term deal. If Gaither is in the future plans of the Ravens, Joe Flacco will be one happy man for quite some time.

Maybe though, we will have to wait until training camp. Whether by injury or releasing of players, some teams may become more interested in Gaither, which can lead the Ravens to pulling a trigger on a deal.
