Bengals' Staff Setting Sail For Super Bowl Run
It's now or never.
That seems to be a fitting mantra for the Cincinnati Bengals, who have dove head first into the NFL pool monikered Free Agency.
Owner Mike Brown, the man who cannot go a day without hearing his name amidst criticism, seems to have put Super Bowl XLV at the bulls-eye of his dartboard. His aim has been off for quite some time though, as the Bengals have failed to post back-to-back winning seasons for over 25 years.
If the recent signings of Adam 'Pacman' Jones, Gibril Wilson, and the courting of a JaMarcus Russell signal anything besides a reality show, it is that Brown and head coach Marvin Lewis are grooming the team for pure success.
Immediate success.
This Bengals' offseason has been an enigma in my mind. Business as usual in spurts, but overall the team's plans have been topsy-turvy. Antonio Bryant and Matt Jones fit the mold of players with problems in their past. Yet they were brought in to strength a weak link of the Bengals' offense.
In the draft, picks Carlos Dunlap and Dezmon Briscoe too had their own run-ins with trouble. But like the rest of the draft, they were chosen because of big-time talent.
I for one support Mike Brown in this. They have proven to take troubled athletes and turn their lives around. But this takes backseat to the talent they provide for the Bengals.
The Bengals seem to care for about the image of their players than the image of their team. At this rate, Lawrence Taylor rumblings will be filling up your search engines.
Bombarding aside, as a fellow Bengals fan I sense both urgency and desire. There would be no other reason for the continued interest in free agents.
Most teams at this time are thinking of trimming down their rosters and staying put.
Not the Bengals. Their the team everyone questions, and now we will see if those questions can be answered.
They'll see you in Arlington...
