Arsenal: Emmanuel Adebayor Confusion

Shyam ParthasarathiJul 11, 2008

If there were a day for conflicting reports in the press, then today would fit the bill. I read in a tabloid this morning that Vincenzo Morabito (yes, Vincenzo Morabito!) said that Arsenal were willing to accept somewhere around 18-20 million pounds for Emmanuel Adebayor.

But, later today, a report emerged (which no websites seem to have picked up on due to some sort of anti-Arsenal bias) stating that Ronaldinho's move seems to be back on the cards and that AC Milan are blocking off talks with Arsenal regarding the purchase of Adebayor.

To quote the Italian version of Ramon Calderon, Adriano Galliani (AC Milan's vice-president):

"We've stopped dealing with Wenger and have to reconfirm that up to now Milan has above all important sacrifices to make in negotiations with its current players, starting with Kaka," Galliani told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Interestingly, Galliani seems to be going back and forth on his own comments, or maybe he is just confused about whether he can or cannot sign Adebayor.

There have also been reports of Barcelona cooling their interest in the aforementioned player and that they might keep hold of Samuel Eto'o when the new season begins.

Arsenal will also sign Amaury Bischoff sometime next week as UEFA clearance is being awaited for the player. This will be a free transfer (but, the UEFA hold up is related to some sort of compensation which Werder Bremen may be due) and it is thought that he would be the player to replace Alexander Hleb, although, given his relative inexperience and lack of match fitness, I doubt that he would be thrown straight into the first team.

From what I understand and even to a large extent, feel, Arsenal will make some signings between now and the middle of August (if Adebayor does leave), with the central midfield position being the central area of activity.

Further developments are expected as we seem to be wrapping up deals for our targets. It might not be such a bad time to be an Arsenal fan after all!
