2010 NFL Mock Draft, Rounds 1 &2: Suh Or Okung to The Lions?
Round one:
1. St. Louis Rams- Sam Bradford, Quarterback, Oklahoma
This pick is as good as gold right now. The Rams need a quarterback and Sam Bradford is the best one available this year.
Many believe the Rams should wait for next year's much improved class that will bring with Jake Locker, Case Keenum, and Greg McElroy.
2. Detroit Lions- Russell Okung, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma State
The Lions will have a very tough time choosing between Ndamukong Suh and Russell Okung, but when all is said and done, Okung will be the choice.
If Detroit wants to keep Matthew Stafford healthy, they will have to get him some much improved blocking. Drafting Okung will ultimately be the best choice for the franchise moving forward.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Ndamukong Suh, Defensive Tackle, Nebraska
The Buccaneers have no choice but to take Suh with this pick. There are absolutely no other options to consider except for Gerald McCoy, maybe.
Ndamukong Suh is the best defensive player in the draft. Some argue he might even be the best overall prospect. This will lead the Bucs to landing one of the best defensive players in years.
4. Washington Redskins- Jimmy Clausen, Quarterback, Notre Dame
Even though Jason Campbell will be with the Redskins for another year, he is not the franchise quarterback that Mike Shanahan wants to lead the team for the upcoming years.
Jimmy Clausen is a great quarterback for the Redskins system. He can get the ball downfield in a hurry.
5. Kansas City Chiefs- Bryan Bulaga, Offensive Tackle, Iowa
Although Eric Berry is quite intriguing, the Chiefs have much bigger needs than safety with the fifth overall pick.
Their offensive line has been terrible for years. If they want to be a run-first team, their blocking for Jamaal Charles must get better. Bulaga is the player that can do just that.
6. Seattle Seahawks- Gerald McCoy, Defensive Tackle, Oklahoma
The Seahawks don't necessarily need Gerald McCoy with this pick, but they can't afford to pass up on somebody with so much talent here.
Gerald McCoy can play either defensive tackle or defensive end. He has the ability to thrive in either position.
7. Cleveland Browns- Eric Berry, Safety, Tennessee
Cleveland has been reported as saying they will target Eric Berry with the 7th overall pick. This stud has the ability to turn around the defense entirely.
Eric Berry can either play cornerback or safety. With the Browns, safety will most likely be his position of choice.
8. Oakland Raiders- Bruce Campbell, Offensive Tackle, Maryland
Not many Raiders fans like this pick. I don't understand why. The Raiders need an offensive tackle and Bruce Campbell is one of the best in the draft.
Bruce Campbell is 6-foot-6, 315 pounds. Al Davis nearly has a stroke every single time a quick player with potential is on the board. It's a match made in heaven, my friends.
9. Buffalo Bills- Trent Williams, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma
The Bills failed to draft an offensive tackle in last years draft after trading away Jason Peters to the Eagles for a first-round-pick.
Trent Williams might not be a top-10 talent, but the Bills won't have many options for the offensive line in the early second.
10. New York Giants (from Jacksonville)- Rolando McClain, Inside linebacker, Alabama
**New York trades their first-round-pick (15th overall) and their third-round-pick to the Jaguars for their first-round-pick
The Giants are going to need to address their middle linebacker spot early in the draft after releasing Antonio Pierce.
New York will be able to trade up, while not giving up much to the Jaguars in return. Rolando McClain should fit in nicely with an already star-studded defensive cast.
11. Denver Broncos- Joe Haden, Cornerback, Florida
Joe Haden is far too good for the Broncos to pass on. With Rolando McClain off the board, Denver will wind up taking Haden.
He is a great cover-corner, but lacks in tackling ability. He should pair nicely in the future with Alphonso Smith or Champ Bailey.
12. Miami Dolphins- Dan Williams, Nose Tackle, Tennessee
Jason Ferguson decided to be stupid and fail a drug test, so he will be suspended for eight games during the 2010 season.
Dan Williams is a great prospect with plenty of potential. Torry Holt actually mocked Williams to the Bucs with the third overall pick recently.
13. San Francisco 49ers- C.J. Spiller, Running Back, Clemson
Frank Gore is one of the better running backs in the league, but he cannot carry the work-load for the 49ers all by his lonesome.
With the recent trend in the NFL being the 1-2 punch at running back, San Francisco will look for a great compliment to Gore with the first of their two first-round-picks.
14. Seattle Seahawks- Dez Bryant, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma State
The Seahawks were nearly about to trade for Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, so I doubt they have any problem in taking a player with a similar personality early in the first.
Dez Bryant is a great player when he wants to be. He recently dropped from 225 pounds to 220 pounds. While it might not be a big deal, it could better his 40 time and improve his stamina.
15. Jacksonville Jaguars- Tim Tebow, Quarterback, Florida
Bold. Absolutely bold. Trust me, I know I will get blasted for this, but I don't mind it whatsoever.
Tim Tebow is a tremendous player who doesn't receive the credit he deserves. I honestly believe many people don't like him for how heavily into Christianity he is.
Tebow has the ability to learn from David Garrard for a year or two. Despite the fact that Garrard is not the greatest mentor, he is better than nothing.
16. Tennessee Titans- Derrick Morgan, Defensive End, Georgia Tech
This would be an absolute steal for the Titans if Derrick Morgan happens to not make it in the first 15 picks.
Tennessee has a major need at defensive end after losing Kyle Vanden Bosch to the Lions through free-agency this year.
17. San Francisco 49ers- Earl Thomas, Defensive Back, Texas
It's recently been stated that Earl Thomas can either play safety or cornerback. This will be a big benefit for the 49ers. They could use help at both spots.
Earl Thomas is very underrated, in my opinion. He doesn't get much respect because of how great Eric Berry is.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers- Mike Iupati, Guard, Idaho
It certainly will be a reach if the Steelers decide to grab Iupati with the 18th pick, but they really have no choice.
Iupati has some character issues he needs to work on, but when he's in his right mind, you don't want to mess with him.
19. Atlanta Falcons- Brandon Graham, Hybrid Linebacker, Michigan
Jamaal Anderson clearly hasn't panned out for the Falcons. As much as it sucks for the franchise, they will have to move on from him.
Brandon Graham has the ability to either play defensive end or outside linebacker, depending on the system.
20. Houston Texans- Taylor Mays, Safety, USC
The Texans need to improve their secondary, vastly. Kyle Wilson will definitely get a look, but Taylor Mays is too good to pass by.
Mays is a beast at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds. He can play at either safety spot with ease. It's a shame he didn't come out last year.
21. Cincinnati Bengals- Brian Price, Defensive Tackle, UCLA
The Bengals don't have many pressing needs at this point, therefore they will go with one of the best players available in Brian Price.
Tank Johnson shouldn't be the starter anymore. He had a decent season last year in limited time, though.
22. New England Patriots- Jason Pierre-Paul, Defensive End, South Florida
The Patriots will have an easy time making this selection. Jason Pierre-Paul is a good prospect that fills a fairly large need for New England.
After trading Richard Seymour, the Patriots had a big hole at defensive end, opposite of Ty Warren. Jason Pierre-Paul will be able to replace Seymour.
23. Green Bay Packers- Charles Brown, Offensive Tackle, USC
If the Packers want Aaron Rodgers to have a long career, Green Bay needs to find offensive lineman that actually enjoy blocking for their offensive still players.
Charles Brown is arguably the best offensive tackle available over Anthony Davis. He's also a better fit for their offensive scheme.
24. Philadelphia Eagles- Kyle Wilson, Cornerback/Returner, Boise State
This pick will change if the Eagles complete the trade with the Raiders that could wind up including cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.
Nonetheless, Philadelphia could use another cornerback across from Asante Samuel. Sheldon Brown won't do it any longer.
25. Baltimore Ravens- Everson Griffen, Defensive End, USC
This might not be a better overall pick than Jared Odrick, but Griffen is a better prospect, in my opinion.
The Ravens lost both Dwan Edwards to the Bills and Justin Bannan to the Broncos through free-agency this off-season.
26. Arizona Cardinals- Anthony Davis, Offensive Tackle, Rutgers
The Cardinals will have to keep Matt Leinart on his feet if they expect him to be the future of their franchise after losing Kurt Warner to retirement.
Anthony Davis has shown a poor work-ethic lately, causing his stock to drop. Nonetheless, he's still a late first-round prospect.
27. Dallas Cowboys- Jared Odrick, Defensive Lineman, Penn State
The Cowboys, as always, don't have many needs going into draft day, so they go with one of the best prospects available.
Dallas could use a little work on the defensive line. Igor Olshansky won't be a starter past this season, guaranteed.
28. San Diego Chargers- Ryan Matthews, Running Back, Fresno State
After losing LaDainian Tomlinson to the Jets, San Diego needs a running back more than ever before.
Ryan Matthews had a tremendous combine, boosting his stock into the later portion of the first round.
29. New York Jets- Golden Tate, Wide Receiver, Notre Dame
The Jets were inquiring into the availability of Brandon Marshall a few weeks back. They obviously feel like they need another wide receiver.
Golden Tate is a great weapon for a team that already has a few of them on the squad (Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery, Dustin Keller, Leon Washington, Shonn Greene).
30. Minnesota Vikings- Maurkice Pouncey, Center/Guard, Florida
Although Anthony Herrera and John Sullivan are decent players, Maurkice Pouncey is just too good to pass up on.
He can play at either center or guard, which are both big needs for the Vikings at this juncture. He will also have the chance to re-unite with Percy Harvin.
31. Indianapolis Colts- Rodger Saffold, Offensive Tackle, Indiana
The Colts offensive line could definitely use an upgrade. Left tackle, right tackle, and right guard could all use some help.
Rodger Saffold had a good combine. He displayed skills of a first-round-pick. Indianapolis will take the risk in the late-first.
32. New Orleans Saints- Sean Weatherspoon, Outside Linebacker, Missouri
It'll be a steal for the Saints if they can land the best pure outside linebacker in the draft this year.
Sean Weatherspoon is a great fit for their defense, and also fills a big need for a defensive that lacks strong outside linebackers.
Round two:
33. St. Louis Rams- Arrelious Benn, Wide Receiver, Illinois
The Rams will need playmakers to surround Sam Bradford. If not, he wil have a terrible rookie campaign.
34. Detroit Lions- Devin McCourty, Cornerback, Rutgers
The Lions traded for Chris Houston a month back, but they lack a No. 2 cornerback.
35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Carlos Dunlap, Defensive End, Florida
Although he's a risk, Tampa Bay needs defensive line help. Stylez G. White led the team in sacks last year with 6.5.
36. Kansas City Chiefs- Sergio Kindle, Hybrid Linebacker, Texas
The Chiefs have one of the worst pass-rushes in the NFL. Sergio Kindle should improve it.
37. Denver Broncos (from Washington)- Jahvid Best, Running Back, California
**Washington trades their 37th overall pick, Devin Thomas, and Malcolm Kelly to the Broncos for Brandon Marshall**
The Broncos need a running back with quickness behind Knowshon Moreno.
38. Cleveland Browns- Jerry Hughes, Hybrid Linebacker, TCU
The Browns recently traded Kamerion Wimbley for a third-round-pick. Rush-linebacker is a big need.
39. Oakland Raiders- Geno Atkins, Defensive Tackle, Georgia
Geno Atkins would fill a need for the Raiders. Not to mention, he ran a 4.75 in the 40.
40. San Diego Chargers- Terrence Cody, Nose Tackle, Alabama
San Diego cut Jamal Williams recently. He quickly signed with the Broncos. They need a replacement.
41. Buffalo Bills- Cam Thomas, Nose Tackle, North Carolina
Buffalo will soon be switching to the 3-4, so they will need a nose tackle of the future.
42. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Brandon LaFell, Wide Receiver, LSU
The Bucs lost Antonio Bryant through free-agency to the Bengals. They need to gain more weapons.
43. Miami Dolphins- Nate Allen, Free Safety, South Florida
The Dolphins failed to sign both Antrel Rolle and Ryan Clark. Clearly safety is a big need for them.
44. New England Patriots- Damian Williams, Wide Receiver, USC
The Patriots need to start building up on the weapons for Tom Brady. Wes Welker might not be ready for the opener come September.
45. Denver Broncos- Vladimir Ducasse, Offensive Lineman, UMass
The Broncos need to add size on the offensive line. Ducasse is 6-foot-5, 332 pounds.
46. New York Giants- Tyson Alualu, Defensive Tackle, California
Rocky Bernard was a bad signing for the Giants. They need a new defensive tackle.
47. New England Patriots- Jason Worilds, Hybrid Linebacker, Virginia Tech
Another pass-rusher for a team that could use it. Great addition to a revamped defense.
48. Carolina Panthers- Mardy Gilyard, Wide Receiver/Kick Returner, Cincinnat
Fills a need in two spots. The Panthers have one of the worst return games in the league today.
49. San Francisco 49ers- Jared Veldheer, Offensive Tackle, Hillsdale
The Niners will find their offensive tackle of the future in the second round. Veldheer's stock continues to rise.
50. Kansas City Chiefs- Linval Joseph, Nose Tackle, East Carolina
The Chiefs need to find their own type of Vince Wilfork here.
51. Houston Texans- Ben Tate, Running Back, Auburn
A great change-of-pace back for Steve Slaton. Ben Tate and Slaton could be a dynamic 1-2 punch in the future.
52. Pittsburgh Steelers- Kareem Jackson, Cornerback, Alabama
The Steelers couldn't even stop Bruce Gradkowski from torching them. They need help in the secondary.
53. New England Patriots- Jermaine Gresham, Tight End, Oklahoma
An Absolute steal for the Patriots. It wouldn't surprise me if he went before this, though.
54. Cincinnati Bengals- Chad Jones, Safety, LSU
The Bengals could use improvement in the secondary. Safety is a big concern for them.
55. Philadelphia Eagles- Daryl Washington, Outside Linebacker, TCU
The Eagles cut Will Witherspoon. Stupid. They will need to find a replacement.
56. Green Bay Packers- Dexter McCluster, RB/WR/KR, Ole Miss
The Packers could use help in the return game. McCluster is one of the most explosive players in the draft.
57. Baltimore Ravens- Patrick Robinson, Cornerback, Florida State
The Ravens could use some help in the secondary. They can't keep getting burned by Peyton Manning.
58. Arizona Cardinals- Koa Misi, Hybrid Linebacker, Utah
Joey Porter recently got a DUI and assaulted an officer. What a fool.
59. Dallas Cowboys- Brandon Ghee, Cornerback, Wake Forest
Terrence Newman isn't getting any younger. It's very possible that he won't be a starter in a couple years.
60. Seattle Seahawks- Montario Hardesty, Running Back, Tennessee
There is no way that Justin Forsett can handle it all on his own. They could use another running back, badly.
61. New York Jets- Reshad Jones, Safety, Georgia
The Jets lost Kerry Rhodes in a trade to the Cardinals. They will need to find his replacement here.
62. Minnesota Vikings- Dominique Franks, Cornerback, Oklahoma
A solid future starter for Antoine Winfield. Also provides the Vikings with more depth at cornerback.
63. Indianapolis Colts- Jermaine Cunningham, Defensive End, Florida
The Colts will need depth on the defensive line after they parted with Raheem Brock after the Super Bowl.
64. New Orleans Saints- Lamarr Houston, Defensive Tackle, Texas
Sedrick Ellis is finally healthy, but the Saints still need depth at defensive tackle. Houston is a great value pick with the last selection in the second round.
