The Bears crushed the Gaels thanks to their superior athleticism and a home court type of advantage. The West Coast Conference champs only shot 35.2 percent from the floor and 27.3 percent from beyond the arc. The rebounding advantage was crucial for the Big XII reps, as F Ekpe Udoh’s 11 boards led the charge in a 37-25 edge on the glass. Baylor jumped out to huge lead early on and never looked back in a dominant second half.
It wasn’t a stellar first half effort from the Blue Devils, but they came alive offensively in the second half to take care of Purdue comfortably. It was the best game in almost a month from G Jon Scheyer, who scored 18 points, but still wasn’t above his scoring average of 18.9 points per game. The Dookies absolutely dominated the glass, owning a 2:1 advantage in the first half and finishing up beating the Boilers on the glass 45-22. Coach K can’t be happy with his team’s 14 turnovers, especially considering that it only forced seven TOs of its own.
The Bears are 2-1 ATS in this tournament, raising them to 8-1 ATS in their L/9 non-conference betting bashes. They’re also 10-3 ATS in their L/13 neutral site games as underdogs. The Dookies may be 4-1 ATS in their L/5 college basketball wagering wars against the Big XII, but they’re only 5-11 ATS in their L/16 NCAA Tournament tussles as favorites. They’re also only 1-6 ATS in their L/7 tourney games as favorites of less than seven points.
