Jake 'The Snake'...One of the Main Reasons for Stone Cold Steve Austin's Success

John BetschelCorrespondent IIMarch 27, 2010

The stage was Wrestlemania 13, Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin in a submission match, with Ken Shamrock as the special guest ref.

The match ended with Austin in the sharpshooter, passed out, bleeding profusely.

Austin had lost the match, but everyone says that match was what put Austin over, starting his rise to fame.

If you read any other article that involves that match, it will say either the exact same thing or something quite similar on the matter.

Well I'm not here to disagree. I do think that was one of the main things that did start Austin's success.

But what everyone seems to forget, or no one mentions, is the 1996 King Of The Ring.

The final match being Stone Cold vs. Jake The Snake, of course in which Stone Cold won with a Stunner.

After the match though, when Austin goes up to the throne where the crown and everything else is, Doc Hendrix is waiting to get a word from Austin.

Austin begins by saying "the first thing I want done is to get that piece of crap out of my ring."

He preceded to demoralize Jake The Snake as he was being carried to the back. But then the next few things Austin would say would go down in WWE history.

"You sit there and you thump your bible, and you say your prayers, and it didn't get you anywhere. Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16, AUSTIN 3:16 SAYS I JUST WHIPPED YOUR ASS!"

Austin who was heel and getting great heat, then received a thunderous roar from the crowd, and Austin 3:16 was born.

It was at this instance when Austin’s rise to the top began. And that could of never been possible if it weren't for Jake The Snake.

Because Jake at the time was doing that exact thing, preaching openly about his Christianity, and talking about reading his bible and so forth.

So if it wasn’t for Jake Roberts, or if it was the other way around with Roberts winning King Of The Ring, Austin 3:16 would have probably never been born.

And maybe Austin wouldn’t of gotten his big push. Maybe he wouldn't have become the beer drinking, hell raising, ass kicking, Hall of Famer SOB that we all have gotten to know and love.

But that, we'll never know. Because he did.
