Vince Carter Can Make Himself a Lock for the Hall of Fame This Year

Dwayne MontellMar 21, 2010

When you look at Vince Carter's resume you say a career average of 23.0 ppg which is pretty good and you see a Rookie of the Year Award from '99, an Olympic gold medal from 2000 and then there is that 2000 Slam Dunk Championship where Vince put on one of the greatest performances in the history of all sports.

He is hands down the best dunker ever to ever play the game and will go down as one of the most exciting players to ever play. But his career isn't legendary at all and if his career were to end today many believe that he wouldn't make the Hall of Fame.

One thing is for sure, though: Vince Carter is very close to being a future Hall of Famer.

For the first time in his career Vince Carter will be on a 50 win team when this season ends. For the first time in his career Vince Carter has a legit chance to go deep in the playoffs. For the first time in his career Vince Carter has a chance to win an NBA championship and even take a Finals MVP with it.

Though his career may not have been as good as other all-time greats from his era like Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson, Shaquille O'Neal, Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett, and Steve Nash he still has had a good career and an NBA championship would pretty much make him a lock for the Hall Of Fame.

Though his stats are at career lows and he may not be the player he was in the early 2000's Vince Carter has given the Orlando Magic that spark that they did not have last season. He has given this Magic team that swagger, confidence and star power that it has been missing. Even though Dwight Howard is the best player on the team everybody knows a championship team needs a player on the perimeter that can take games over.

Vince is their go-to guy and even though he isn't as explosive as he once was he is still one of the best go to guys in the league. Vince can score, make plays for others, take games over at any time and he is one of the most clutch players in the league. Vince is that go to superstar that the Magic can rely on anytime when the rest of the team is struggling.

Carter has the abilities to take games over and with this talented Magic squad combined with Carter's abilities the Magic are going to go far in the playoffs as a matter of fact they may cruise through the playoffs and win it all this season.

Though Dwight Howard would be the main man on the Magic late in the playoffs teams are going to try shutting Dwight down and when they do Vince Carter is going to have to do more and he has proven he can.

The Magic will be a dangerous team come playoff time and can win the East once again. Boston's glory days are over and it looks like the Big Three era is over they just are to old and unhealthy to go deep in the playoffs. The Hawks are just not good enough to beat the Magic.

The Cavaliers have improved a lot since last year's Eastern Finals and are probably the hungriest team in the league because they have LeBron James trying to get his first championship and Shaquille O'Neal wants his fifth ring pretty bad plus there is a lot of pressure on Mike Brown to make Cleveland a champion because they are loaded with talent this season and he would get a lot of blame if the Cavs failed to reach the Finals this season.

The Cavaliers are the Magic's biggest challenge and even they are going to have to bring their A game to beat this Magic team.

The Magic play amazing defense and present major match up issues for the Cavs. The Magic have a better bench and maybe even a better starting lineup. The Magic have the most dominant center in the league in Dwight Howard and he is going to come out with a vengeance because of the comments Shaq made about him this season.

This Magic team has already beat the Lakers this season twice and if they get to the Finals and face them again than the Lakers are in trouble. The Lakers are just no the same team they were last season and are not playing with the same hunger they were playing with last season.

Last year the Magic had everything except for a superstar perimeter player and now they have it in Vince Carter. Hedo Turkoglu was good but Vince Carter is just better and come playoff time this Magic team is going to show the world just how dominant they are.

Vince Carter is going to do a lot of big things in the playoffs this year if he continues playing the way he has been playing since the end of January. Though he maybe having his worst statistical year in a long time he is still averaging 17 points on a team that is loaded with talent and is about five guys, not one.

The only thing Vince has to work on is hitting most of his shots because if this team can win games with Vince Carter shooting a nasty 37 percent from the field than they will be unstoppable when Carter is shooting over 43 percent from the field.

As of today, Vince Carter's career is not great but good, and he has been forgotten the past couple of years. But this postseason Vince Carter can change that, because if he leads Orlando to a championship—which he is very capable of doing—he will not only be known as the greatest dunker ever, but he will someday be known as an NBA hall of famer.
