If Buffalo Bills Draft Tim Tebow, This Is How He Changes Everything They Do

Dan Van WieMar 15, 2010

As we continue to inch closer to the upcoming NFL Draft, there have been plenty of draft experts that have predicted that the Buffalo Bills will use their first pick, the overall number nine pick, on the best left tackle available on the draft board. That is due to the depth of solid left tackles that are available in this specific draft class.

While that theory continues to gain momentum, as you see from one mock draft to the next, there is one wild card that could change all of that thinking in a hurry. Who is the wild card I am referring to?

None other than Tim Tebow, the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback from the University of Florida.

The Bills are one of two teams that have requested a personal workout with Tebow, which is a pretty clear indication that they have sincere interest in finding out if his improved mechanics are worthy of drafting him as high as the second round. His long wind up has been routinely criticized, so Tebow is learning how to throw the football all over again, as he has amassed a team of NFL coaches and tutors to get it right.

But the one single aspect that keeps getting overlooked by everybody is that he is a left-handed thrower. Because Tebow is left-handed, his blind side would not be protected by the left tackle, but instead by the right tackle. That single fact could literally upset the entire apple cart for the Bills and represents huge gambles across the board.

For example, if the Bills plan to draft Tebow in the second round, they would probably either trade down from the number nine spot, and pick up a better right tackle, or go with other needs with the first pick—nose tackle, linebacker, defensive end, etc.

What if they pass on the franchise left tackle in the first round, and then another team drafts Tebow before the Bills come up again at No. 41? You sunk my battleship!!

Obviously, this is all speculation, but if the Bills are in fact interested in Tebow, there is a whole myriad of possibilities that could change what the team does in the first round, and for the remainder of the draft as well.

What do you think?
