Browns Motto For 2010: Change. Quinn & Wimbley Latest Casualities

Scott KellerMar 14, 2010

Holmgren seems to be taking the message of the Obama campaign to heart: A Time for Change. Bob Dylan's classic, ""The Times They Are A Changin", is blasting throughout the Browns headquarters in Berea.

Brady Quinn and Kamerion Wimbely are the most recent ex-Browns players to be feeling the effects of change.  Quinn traded for Peyton Hillis, a 6th rounder in 2011, and a conditional 2012 pick shows what little value Holmgren placed on Quinn.  It is surprising the Browns were not able to get more than a FB and late round picks for a QB that was supposed to be the future of the Cleveland Browns when he was drafted.  Quinn's inability to become an accurate passer and handle the high speed of the NFL was ultimately his downfall with this new regime.

Delhomme is a not the answer that Browns fans wanted to hear but he will be a great mentor for the QB the Browns select in this draft.   Due to the fact that Seneca Wallace was acquired you would think that one of the Browns third round picks will be a QB who will be groomed by two seasoned West Coast QB's.  This puts the Browns in great position to draft according to team need with their first and second round picks while filling in the QB need in the third round.

Wimbely was a surprise but as we have seen so far with the new regime you are not safe unless your  last name is Cribbs or Thomas.  Wimbley was starting to regain his form from his rookie year and looked to be emerging as a star in Rob Ryan's defense.  The thing to remember here is the amount of youth the Browns have at outside linebacker and moving Wimbley will help them fill other holes on the team.

I have a feeling that the organization is still planning a couple of more moves.  It is still surprising that nothing has yet to be done to shore up any holes or depth issues in the secondary.  Having twelve picks in this years draft will enable the Browns to possibly move a pick or two for an established veteran CB or S or to move up in another round.  Don't be surprised if the Browns don't try to package up their second round pick and a combo of other picks to move back into the first round if a desired player is available in the mid to late 20s.  Heckert has been know to move up in the draft and he is now primed to land back in the first round.  It will be interesting to see how this all plays out come draft day.
