Does Chris Duhon Know Magic? The Story of The Disappearing Point Guard
With trade deadline acquisitions of Sergio Rodriguez from Sacramento, and Eddie House from the Boston Celtics, the rotation looked to be a bit crowded at the point guard position for the New York Knicks. That seemed to be the case until Chris Duhon pulled a Harry Houdini disappearing act and opened the door for the the Spanish-born Rodriguez to grab the reins...
Since the trade deadline, Duhon, formerly the starter and averaging nearly 33 minutes per game, has not seen the court. There are many conspiracy theories out there concerning this, and they deserve a look.
- Perhaps Duhon told coach Mike D'Antoni that he wanted to play defense. Knowing D'Antoni, the idea was probably scoffed at and Duhon caged for the ludicrous suggestion.
- Maybe Knicks fans finally got tired of a floor-general shooting a miserable 34% from the field, a number even poor for a Knick. Fans decided that Duhon needs to spend more time with Eddy Curry, in a kitchen, and less time on the basketball court.
- Another possibility involves Knick management realizing that any connection with Chris Duhon could possibly scare away Lebron James. In order to keep any hope of a successful Knicks future alive, they were forced to put Duhon into the ("WITNESS" Protection Program).
Or, most likely, D'Antoni appreciated having a real point guard on his team, in Rodriguez and gave away Duhon's minutes completely. Another positive to Duhon's sudden disappearance seems to be the sudden appearance of Toney Douglas. Mere bench fodder for most of the season, in the last few games, Douglas has seen substantial minutes, including in the closing minutes of games.
The season, already a lost cause, should be spent developing young players, and luckily D'Antoni has noticed that, recently integrating trade-deadline acquisition Bill Walker into the rotation, including a few games in the starting lineup.
Sadly (for some), Chris Duhon is still missing, and feared dead(weight). There are no clues in the case, besides a long trail of "DNP-CD"s. Though one fan claims to have seen Duhon digging in a dumpster recently.
Approaching Duhon, the fan asked "what are you doing in there, Chris?".
Caught off guard, Duhon slowly turned and replied that he was "merely looking for garbage minutes."
