How The Arizona Cardinals Can Retain The NFC West In 2010

Don GonzalesMar 8, 2010

The Arizona Cardinals, minus their QB situation, are still a far better team than any other team in the NFC West. However, with the departure of Kurt Warner, one has to wonder if the Cardinals are, in fact, a good enough team to stay on top of the NFC with their current QB roster the way it stands today.

The questions surrounding the Cardinals QB's, concerning their ability to get the job done, are endless, and the answers declaring that their QBs can get the job done seem to be submitted with crossed fingers and/or hope rather than with much thought or concern geared towards reality.

With the San Francisco 49ers signing QB David Carr to a two year contract, the Arizona Cardinals' top brass might be wise to sign 49ers QB Shaun Hill as a back up to Matt Leinart.

Shaun Hill's production, numbers, leadership, intangibles, and ability to come through in the clutch might very well make him the best QB in the NFC West.

Shaun Hill, in 16 starts for the San Francisco 49ers, passed for 3,490 yards, ran for another 197 yards, produced 26 TD's (23 pass / 3 run) with 11 INT's, completed 61.7 percent of his passes, had a 87.6 QB rating, won the Offensive Player of the Week vs. the Rams, produced five fourth quarter comeback victories and posted a 10-6 win/loss record as a starter.

Another factor is that Shaun Hill has owned the Seahawks and the Rams, and he could very easily own the 49ers as well if Matt Leinart was to falter or get injured.

Hopefully the Cardinals are wise enough to understand the benefit to signing Shaun Hill, and hopefully they understand it before the Seahawks or the Rams do.
