To All Dallas Mavericks Fans, Can We Trust This Team To Win It All?
Take a look at the article picture? It brings back a lot of good, yet sorrow memories for us Mavs fans. I can still see it....Game 3, with 6:46 minutes to go, Mavs up 14 points and many of us started to celebrate our first NBA title..I mean, let's face it...If Mavs go up 3-0, no way Heat comes back right? Well, we know that they came back from 2-0, so who's to know...Anyway, Im sure this article has been written many times, but allow me to state my opinion, I mean after all, I am a true, real Mavs fan, who at times can be hoomerish, but at the same time, very realistic...
For the past few weeks Dallas has been on a roll.Eleven wins in a row, and half of them have been against good quality playoff teams, such as Lakers, Magic, Suns, and Atlanta Hawks. Dallas traded for Butler, Haywood and Stevenson, and all I have been hearing for the past few weeks, how that made them tougher, stronger, and bigger.I'll give you all that. After only 12 games, many of us have been talking about how Haywood is the best center Dallas has ever had,and noone can argue there. He's been an instant double double guy every night.Dallas never had that much consistency at 5 position. Butler is seen as no nonsense kinda guy around the league, who goes about his business. Even as wacky as DeShawn Stevenson is, he's definitely brought something Dallas has never had. As my good friend Randy Galloway of ESPN 1033.3 likes to say, "Thug it up" attitude(reference to 2007 Golden State Warriors)who beat the Mavs in the 1st round. Now, with all this being said, can we trust this team to make it all the way. In my opinion, there are two teams in the west who could give Mavs hard time, in the playoffs. One being Denver Nuggets. Dallas and Denver met in 2nd round of playoffs last year, and Denver won easy. Dallas never had a chance. Denver was bigger tougher and just bullied their way to the WCF. Other team, is the current NBA champions, The Los Angeles Lakers. Now, correct me if Im wrong, last time Mavs and Lakers played in the playoffs was 1988 WCF, which Lakers won 4-3.However, Lakers have dominated Mavs forever. Now, I might have gone way too long before I got to my point, but the question is, Can we trust this team to win it all. As a Dallas fan, I have been disappointed many many times over the past decade. For the last few years, I've somewhat learned no to get too involved, but then again I can't help it. It used to be where If Dallas losses, I would not read any Mavs related articles, I refused to. My expectations for this team have definitely raised up over the past decade. At first, I was hoping for the playoffs. Then at least a 1st round win, and so on, you get the picture. Now, of course It's NBA title or bust. 2010 seems somewhat different, and as my title states, should I once again forget about all of the disappointing times, and trust this team to win it all. I want to, I really do, but for now, I'm not. I'll wait and see what happens. I'm enjoying this team the most since that 2006 finals team, and without a doubt, this is the most talented team Dallas has ever had. I mean you look at their starting 5, it's an all star team on the floor, except Haywood, but if he keeps playing the way he is, he definitely has a chance to be there one day. It looks to be another classic 2nd season in the western conference.Who will Dallas draw, who will crush my dreams this time, let's wait and see.
