Jerry Reese Has a Linebacker Dilemma to Tackle

The Giants improved one of their positions of need with the acquisition of Antrel Rolle.The middle linebacker position should be next up on the off season agenda.Here's the dilemma that Jerry Reese will have to deal with;dose he spend a 3rd round pick on a 28 year old linebacker Kirk Morrison, only to get about four quality seasons out of him (much like what happened with Antonio pierce)?

Does he go after the Cleveland Browns MLB D'Qwell Jackson (tendered at the 2nd round level), who's one year removed from a stellar season(in '08)—due to season ending shoulder surgery in '09? Or does he forget about "stop gap" options at linebacker.Focus on taking a young stud with the first round pick—Sean Weatherspoon, then take the best player available after.Granted Weatherspoon is raw in some areas,good coaching and some preseason action can get him up to speed because he has all the intangibles.

With the draft comes a lot of different directions that teams can go in.It's well documented that this years draft class is loaded with talent;due to everyone coming out of college before the league implements in a rookie salary cap,presumably in the next CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement).On draft day Jerry Reese could take the best player available at 15, if that player isn't a linebacker,he could find a linebacker in the second round.A guy like Jamar Chaney might be a good fit; he's young, fast, good against run, pass and is side line to side line(kinda like DeMeco Ryans).Daryl Washington would be a good selection in the second round as well.

The middle linebacker position should be addressed either through the draft or free agency.In order to keep up with the talented running backs and tight ends in the NFC east,an Athletic linebacker in the middle is paramount.After all the failed late round linebacker projects that the Giants took over the last few years,this might be the year they break that trend and take one in the first two rounds.
