2010 NFL Draft: Browns Mike Holmgren Disagrees About Not Throwing at NFL Combine
Cleveland.com reporter Tony Grossi has reported that Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren heavily disagrees against quarterbacks who choose not to throw at the NFL Scouting Combine.
This is a very intriguing bit of information coming out of the Browns headquarters in Berea, OH, because there has been next to nothing being leaked about their quarterbacks.
Also interesting is that when Holmgren says something like this then all other NFL teams should listen because he is an expert in the field of quarterbacks, especially when he has developed both Steve Young and Brett Favre.
Currently, Holmgren is evaluating both Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson to see if one of them may be the starting quarterback of the Browns' future.
Logic says that since Anderson is due over $7 million in salary and bonus' in 2010, that he will be a roster casualty come March, but that answer may not come until as late as March 20.
IF (and if is capitalized for a reason) Holmgren does not feel comfortable with either Quinn or Anderson, then he may look to the NFL Draft for an answer.
Now IF Holmgren goes to the draft with this most recent news about how he hates when quarterbacks do not throw at the combine out in the media, it looks like he will most likely not look to Sam Bradford, Jimmy Clausen, Tim Tebow, or Dan LeFevour because they are all skipping the throwing part of the combine.
(UPDATE: 2-24 at 9:40 PM EST: Colt McCoy has announced that he will not throw at the combine, so understand the following was written before the announcement.)
So that leaves two big names who may be on the top of Holmgren quarterback list: Colt McCoy and Tony Pike.
There are many of us here on Bleacher Report who do not think much of Pike and would rather have McCoy, but this journalist would be happy with either IF Quinn/ Anderson is not happening.
Both quarterbacks will be able to dramatically increase their stock levels and hopefully both will have a few good performance in the throwing events.
Especially McCoy, who had a nerve injury in his throwing shoulder and his desire to throw at the combine, really shows his passion to succeed at football.
Pike on the other hand, could be a Joe Flacco clone and he will be able to silence his critics in Indianapolis.
Holmgren will be able to watch these two up close and personal in Indy, so don't be surprised if the Browns pick one of these two IF they go in that direction and look to the draft for an answer at quarterback.
