Maple Leafs-Senators: Round Three in the Battle of Ontario

Jacob DearloveNov 5, 2007

Icon Sports MediaThe Toronto Maple Leafs head into Scotiabank Place looking to win the third game of the season series against the Ottawa Senators.

After a home-and-home series that saw the Ottawa came out on top, the Sens have gone on to a record of 12-1-0.

On the other side, the Leafs have played inconsistently since those two games, and hold a record of 6-6-3.

The Senators defeated the Leafs in the first two games of the season, and the Leafs are raring to go for the rematch—especially Mark Bell.

The new Leaf is looking to start his career with the Blue and White on the right foot.

"That's the best way to do it, play against the best team in the league and the fastest team, I think" said Bell.

The former Blackhawk and Shark has missed the first 15 games of the year while serving a suspension for drunk driving.

The key for the Leafs in this game will be defense. They have struggled immensely this year on the back end, and need to get a strong game out of their defensemen.

I know you've heard it a million times—but goaltending will also be important for both teams.

Vesa Toskala played a great game for the Leafs in Montreal on Saturday. Meanwhile, there's controversy in Ottawa over who should be the starting goaltender.

Martin Gerber has great for the Sens with a 9-1-0 record, a 1.88 GAA, and a .938 save percentage. Ray Emery, the expected starter at the beginning of the year, has only appeared in two games, posting a 2-0-0 record, a 2.50 GAA, and a save percentage of .902.

Predictions

Starters: Vesa Toskala, Martin Gerber

Score: Leafs 4, Sens 2
