Dion Phaneuf Traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Seven-Player Deal!
Calgary and Toronto apparently struck a deal in the late night or early morning hours and the details have yet truly to be released but as it stands the two teams in turmoil have made a big deal.
The deal is D Dion Phaneuf, F Fredrick Sjostrom, D Keith Aulie to Toronto for F Matt Stajan, F Niklas Hagman, F Jamal Mayers, and D Ian White.
The Flames who finally got a win last night 6-1 over the lowly Edmonton Oilers needed a shake up.

Toronto after holding a 3-0 lead over the Western conference powerhouse Vancouver Canucks ended up blowing it and losing 5-3 at the ACC.
More details should be coming in and hopefully the change of address for the once heavily feared Phaneuf will rejuvenate him.
This trade looks to benefit the Toronto team on the backend where they have needed it and addresses the scoring woes of the Flames while also removing thoughts of the Leafs needing to resign these players, three birds with one stone, so to speak.
The 6’3” 214 pound Phaneuf known for his thundering hits is already, in his young career, highly decorated, he was drafted in the first round ninth overall in 2003 by the Calgary Flames.
Sjostrom a 6’1”, 218-pound 26-year-old Swedish player has 42 goals and 52 assists in 404 NHL games. He was a 1st round 11th overall pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2001.
Keith Aulie is a 6’6” defenseman formerly of the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL playing at the moment for the Abbotsford Heat of the AHL, he was drafted in the fourth round 116th overall in 2007, a definite big body on the back end.
More details to be added check back.
