Burke Busy Come Trade Deadline

The Maple Leafs have nine pending unrestricted and four restricted free agents, and their future with the team depends mostly on the club's fortunes, their willingness to stay and Burke's willingness to keep them.

Each of them could end up being trade bait for the March 3 deadline as the Leafs do not have a pick in the first two rounds. 

The unrestricted free agents are the most likely to be traded.  Matt Stajan, playing a first-line centre role he's not particularly suited to, could be a candidate for trade.

Burke said he was opening negotiations with the players he wants to keep, but isn't about to start naming names.

Leafs take just over 3mil off the Blackhawks books for next season. Exelby can fill in as the 7th defenceman which is what Sopel is. 

Try to re-sign Stempniak to a 2mil contract or else send him for a 2nd/3rd rounder.  Let Primeau, Wallin, Mayers, Van-Ryn and Toskala go. Re-sign Gustavsson, Kulemin, Mitchell.
