Keys to the Wolf Den: Free Agency Without Rudy Gay
Rudy Gay wants a huge contract.
The Minnesota Timberwolves GM David Kahn has said he would pay very close attention to the 6'8'' swingman who currently plays for the Memphis Grizzlies.
While I, a Wolves fan, would love to have Rudy Gay, a $65 million contract over five years seems way too much for his caliber player.
There are some situations that would limit the young swingman to have to take a pay cut, due to the fact that he is a RESTRICTED FREE AGENT and that the Wolves could make the largest offer, and due to many teams having concrete free agents who they are pursuing, the Wolves could end up getting Rudy Gay for a reasonable price.
With that not being the case, however, there are other free agents who the Wolves could definitely throw some money to and not necessarily to "build a franchise around," but rather fill a need.
Greg Oden
I imagine that the Wolves could get him at a fair price, due to the fact that the Blazers have basically given up on him due to injury. It's possible that Greg wants to be in the same young tier of players, and the Wolves are in desperate need of a defensive big man.
Travis Outlaw
A swingman with a lot of potential still left in his career. He can light it up in limited minutes and Wolves fans should know—he played 19 minutes against them and scored 19 points.
J.R Giddens
A swingman who does not have a proper role on the Boston Celtics team. A 6'6'' athlete with a great dunking ability, and although is a raw talent, could come at a very cheap price.
Chris Douglas Roberts
With the New Jersey Nets only winning two games, it's probably time to clean house and hope for John Wall. CDR would give the Wolves a little bit of everything, and although is three-point shooting needs work, he averages 16 PPG, shooting 45 percent from the field, and has some surreal talent.
Aaron Gray
Can you say a seven-footer looking for a one-year contract on a team where he can actually PLAY at least five to six minutes?
Randolph Morris
Getting to watch this kid after the Hawks blow out teams really impresses me sometimes. He can score on the low post, but his defense needs work. Another prospect.
Rodney Carney
Wolves fans love him; why not bring him back for another year?
There are many others, but Outlaw, Roberts, and Oden should be taken into consideration.
Name some others, Wolves fans!
Thanks for reading!
