Of Course, It's Javier Vasquez for Melky Cabrera And Prospects
This one caught me by surprise. Of course, Javier Vasquez is a better choice than Aaron Harang or Derek Lowe, but I relied on reports that the Yankees might still be sour about Vasquez’s last time in pin-stripes (2004) when he had one of the worst seasons in his career. I also didn’t think the Braves would be willing to trade their 2009 staff ace. I didn’t take into account that the Braves might want Melky Cabrera…
I still like Melky, but the Braves are almost certainly going to be hurt by this trade in 2010.
The other parts of this trade are interesting. The Braves got a true Grade A prospect out of the Yankees in 19 (in 2010) year old Dominican RHP Arodys Vizcaino. Arodys has a career minor league ERA of 2.93 with a pitching line of 86.1 innings pitched, 72 hits and 28 walks allowed and 100 K’s. That definitely sounds like a prospect, but,of course, he has a long way to go.
The Braves made giving up Vizcaino a little less bitter for the Yankees by swapping 25 year old lefties Boone Logan and Mike Dunn. The one the Yankees got, Boone Logan, looks closer to being ready to help a major league team going into 2010. The Yankees also threw in some cash, but I haven’t seen the amount reported yet.
