Europe Is Smiling: Sheamus and Drew McIntyre Leave WWE TLC Champions

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 14, 2009

Does anyone else find it funny that the WWE uses a guy for the poster and then doesn't have him on the card?  I'm just sayin'.

Last night's TLC PPV saw three title changes, four if you count the strange Taker/Batista ending.

First off, I was surprised to see Christian retain against Shelton.  Christian has had two long reigns as ECW champion which means one of two things, either creative has nothing else for him, or they are trying to build the ECW brand around him.  Either way, Shelton was robbed.

Drew McIntyre beat John Morrison to become the Intercontinental Champion.  This did not surprise me, as it felt like they were setting this up from the moment Drew beat John on Smackdown.  I also think they are going to be grooming Morrison to move up in the WWE ranks.

DX beat Jerishow to gain their first WWE tag team titles.  I wrote an article awhile back griping about how DX are called the best tag team without ever having held the gold, well now I can't complain anymore, except for maybe that the match was the headliner when it should have been the opener.

Undertaker held onto his title in a victory that surprised me a bit.  With Taker's knee injuries and Batista having just come off a big heel turn, I was sure we were going to see a new Champion crowned. We almost did, but then T-Lo came out and screwed it up by restarting it.

Orton beat Kofi in a decent match, hopefully this is not the end of their feud.  Kofi was really doing some great stuff with Randy over the past month or so, and I would like to see him continue with Orton for a bit longer.  I don't think Orton will be taking on Sheamus, so it is likely the Kofi/Orton feud will continue.

And finally, Sheamus won the WWE title in what is so far the most controversial thing to happen in the WWE since the Montreal Screwjob.  I have seen nothing but conflicting opinions about this match.

Some say it's great that WWE is elevating new guys, and some say it's a mistake.  I will stay out of this fight and simply say congrats to Sheamus for winning the title in the shortest amount of time in the WWE I have ever seen.

Overall, the PPV had a few surprises for me, but still did not deliver a great showing.

What does it say about WWE's women's division when the smaller company, TNA, has a women's tag and singles championship with only one show, where as WWE has two singles belts on three different shows.  Superstars doesn't count since they don't have their own roster.

What were your thoughts on TLC?
