A Beatles Recap of the Baltimore Ravens' 48-3 Win Over Detroit

Kyle WilliamsDec 13, 2009

The Ravens have been struggling in their recent games, and they needed to gain their momentum soon, or they would be on the outside of the playoff picture. Luckily for the Ravens, they had the Lions next on their schedule, and as we all know, the Lions are just not that good.

Here is a quick recap (Beatles-style) of what occurred in the Ravens 48-3 stomping over Detroit.

With A Little Help From My Friends (Released 1967)

Ray Rice managed to wreck the Detroit Lions’ defense all day. He rushed for 166 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown run. Rice’s success on the ground led to Willis McGahee breaking loose late in the game.

McGahee can thank his good ol’ buddy for helping him wear out the Lions defense. Rice racked up the yards, while McGahee notched two touchdowns, and even racked up 76 rushing yards. That’s what friends are for I guess.

I’ll Be Back (Released 1964)

If you thought Troy Smith had fallen off the face of the Earth, then you're not the only one. But the former Buckeye quarterback is still around, and in fact, he got some playing time today.

With Joe Flacco getting some rest late in the game with the win all but locked up, Smith got his chance to make some plays. He went 2-for-3 for 10 yards, but just like we all remember, he has a great running game, and showed his legs off today. With five minutes left in the game, Smith took off for 15 yards, and reached the end zone, putting the Ravens up 48-3. Could Troy Smith finally get a chance in the NFL? Maybe, but let’s not jump to conclusions yet.

When I’m Sixty-Four (Released 1967)

This is one of my personal favorites by the Beatles, and this song perfectly fits the Lions. Maybe when I’m 64, the Lions will have a shot to win the Super Bowl.

But that’s a long ways off, so for now, we all will have to live with the Lions of today. Detroit now falls to 2-11, which gives the Lions two wins in the past two seasons!

Ouch!

For the sake of all the Lions fans out there (wherever you are), let’s hope that Matthew Stafford can pan out, and hopefully the 2010 rookies can work out as well.

Help! (Released 1965)

With the Ravens critical victory over the Lions, they now stand at 7-6, and are battling for a playoff spot. They are in desperate need of multiple teams losing in order for them to secure a playoff spot down the road.

The AFC North battle is heating up down the stretch. Thankfully, the Ravens won, while the Bengals and Steelers both lost.

Now the Ravens are in second place behind the Bengals, and are just two games back in the division. In the wildcard race, the Broncos hold the No. 1 wildcard seed as of now, but they lost to the Colts today.

The No. 2 wildcard team is Jacksonville, who lost as well. Now the Ravens are just behind the Jaguars for the second spot since they both stand at 7-6, and the Dolphins, as well as the Jets, are also 7-6.
