Awards Rolling In Following Alabama's Undefeated Season

Following the undefeated regular season and the strong finish as SEC champions, the individual awards are flowing in to individually recognize the Crimson Tide players and coaches.

75th Heisman Award

Most recently, star running back for the Tide, Mark Ingram took the podium at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City to harness the Heisman Trophy. With the closest margin of votes in the history of the award, from media members and former Heisman winners across the nation, the Alabama halfback was selected as the most accomplished player for the season.

Walter Camp First Team All-American

Earlier in the week, The Walter Camp Foundation chose four Crimson Tide players as First Team All-American. The selection committee voted nosetackle Terrence Cody, offensive guard Mike Johnson, RB Mark Ingram and linebacker Rolando McClain onto the 120th Walter Camp All-American team. Alabama has the most first team members for the 2009 team.

Also present at the award ceremony was Alabama head coach Nick Saban. He was joined by Cody, Ingram and Kicker Leigh Tiffin. In addition to being the Heisman recipient, Mark Ingram was a finalist for the Doak Walker Award (nation's best running back) and Maxwell Award (college player of the year).

Terrence Cody was a finalist for the Bednarik Award (best defensive player). Tiffin was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award (nation's best kicker).

Dick Butkus Award and Jack Lambert Trophy

Roland McClain became a recipient of the Dick Butkus Award on Monday. He was also awarded the Jack Lambert Trophy .

McClain is the leader of the Crimson Tide defense. On the year, he logged 101 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and 14 quarterback hurries. He made two interceptions, caused three pass breakups and forced one fumble.

American Football Coaches First Team All-Americans

On Dec. 3, the AFCA All-American Team selected Alabama teammates Mark Ingram, Rolando McClain, Javier Arenas and OL Mike Johnson as First Team All-Americans. The American Football Coaches Association has selected All-American teams since 1945. Alabama is only the seventh team to have had four players selected in the same year.

All SEC First Team Honors

The First Team All-SEC Offense included OL Mike Johnson and RB Mark Ingram.

First Team All-SEC Defense has Rolando McClain, NT Terrence Cody, CB Javier Arenas and safety Mark Barron.

First Team All-SEC for special teams included Kicker Leigh Tiffin and return specialist Javier Arenas. Arenas is the only player chosen for two positions; a very rare honor.

Wide receiver Julio Jones was selected to the second team offense.

SEC All-Freshman Team Honors

Teammates RB Trent Richardson, LB Nico Johnson and OL Barrett Jones were selected to the 2009 Freshman All-SEC Team.

Alabama freshmen Barrett Jones, Trent Richardson and Nico Johnson were named to the 2009 Sporting News Freshman All-Southeastern Football Team, the long-time sports publication announced Wednesday.

First Ever Six AP All-Americans from one team

Junior Rolando McClain was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Teammate Javier Arenas was named Special Teams Player of the Year.

Alabama led all SEC teams with eight first team selections, Florida was second with seven.

Coaches Awards

Head Coach Nick Saban is a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award and for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award. Coach Saban won the Liberty Mutual award in 2008. He is also past recipient of the Eddie Robinson Award in 2008 and 2003 (LSU).

Nicholas Lou Saban has previously been named as recipient of the AP Coach of the year award in 2008 and 2003 (LSU).

He was named 2009 SEC Coach of the Year earlier in the week. The selection is made by the 12 SEC head coaches and the Associated Press. He was SEC coach of the year in 2008, as well.

Defensive Coordinator and safeties coach Kirby Smart won the Broyles Award recognizing him as the top assistant coach in 2009.
