Afterglow: The Sports Weekend That Was

Here for your viewing pleasure...and in some case pain...is the weekend that left everyone thirsty for more.

Knights Gore "Da Bulls" and other Crazy Ball Games

Rutgers called it a must win; maybe someone should have told South Florida.

Heavy damage was done to the Bulls' chances of playing for the national championship after they fell 30-27 to the Scarlet Knights in New Yawk. The loss will most likely drop South Florida to the bottom of the Top Five in the Bleacher Report poll, but the Bulls aren't done yet.

In Lexington, Tim Tebow jacked up his shoulder, but still got five touchdowns, including the final nail in the coffin to silence the Kentucky Wildcats 45-37. Florida snapped a two-game losing skid.

Speaking of which, LSU and Auburn, the two teams that beat Florida, met in Baton Rouge. Les Miles will either be considered a genius for his decision-making, or a crazed lunatic for risking it all.

Either way, he doesn't care. His team's in the Top Five with this win.

Cal already lost a big one last week against Oregon State, and apparently couldn't recover in time to tangle with the UCLA Bruins. Losing 30-21 most likely cost the Bears a chance to win the Pac-10 with USC coming up in three weeks.

Still flying under the radar and making the most of it are Michigan (27-17 win over Illinois), Kansas (19-14 win over Colorado), and Alabama (41-17 win over Tennessee).

On a lighter side, Vanderbilt upset South Carolina. Insert boisterous, hysterical laugh now.

IconBrady Has Another Holiday...and Elam Does It Again

Tom Brady has won many games with his clutch play. On Sunday, he showed Miami why he's just as dangerous on the road as he is at home.

Throwing for 354 yards and six touchdowns, Brady dominated throughout New England's 49-28 rout of the Dolphins.

If you think the Dolphins fans are upset, the Bills fans are ecstatic because their team upset the Baltimore Ravens in Orchard Park.

The "Chefs" showed that there's no "I" in team, but a "D" in defense. Thanks to a big defensive play, Kansas City survived a scare to beat Oakland 12-10.

Rob Bironas, who is no stranger to clutch plays, nailed a record eight field goals, including the game-winner, to shock the Houston Texans and give the former Houston Oilers another win over their replacements.

Speaking of clutch kicking, did anyone think the Steelers would lose last night? Jason Elam, who is still dangerous with grey in his beard, kicked his team out of a three-game skid and nailed his third game-winning field goal of the season.

Last year, the Broncos beat Pittsburgh thanks to six turnovers. Last night, they forced three, all by Ben Roethlisberger.

By the way, the Dolphins and St. Louis Rams are the only teams in the NFL that have not won a game yet. Don't expect that to change anytime soon...unless they play each other.

IconBoston Climbs Out of Elimination...Again

The Red Sox were on the brink of elimination three years ago against a dangerous New York Yankees team.

Somehow, some way, the BoSox rallied from three games down to win the ALCS en route to their first World Series pennant.

Last week, they found themselves back in familiar territory. Down three games to one, the Sox bounced back again and won Game Five 7-1, then crushed the Tribe 12-2 in Game Six to tie the series.

With Bostonians waiting to celebrate their beloved Red Sox opened the gates of despair for Cleveland in Game Seven, letting their bats do the talking, and clinching their second World Series appearance in four years.

For Cleveland, it was officially over. LeBron James might want to attend a Browns game before the NBA season starts.

For Boston, it's time to face the hottest team in baseball.

Contrary to what those idiots over at Fox Sports have to say, Boston will have their hands full against the Colorado Rockies. It took them long enough to clinch the AL. Now we can focus on the World Series...finally.

That's all she wrote, knuckleheads. Start writing your hate mail.
