Latest WWE WrestleMania Backlash Match Card and Predictions Ahead of Go-Home Raw

0 of 5

WWE presents WrestleMania Backlash Sunday night, a sequel of sorts to The Granddaddy of Them All, headlined by championship encounters.

From Cesaro's attempt to break through the glass ceiling by defeating Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship to Charlotte Flair's return to the Raw Women's Championship picture, the show features a strong card full of potential title changes.

Which ones should fans expect and who might leave the show with their arms raised in victory? Find out with this look at the updated match card and predictions before Monday's go-home edition of Raw.

Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship

1 of 5

After defeating Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 37, things only get more difficult for WWE champion Bobby Lashley as he battles the Scot and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat match Sunday night.

While this might appear to be the perfect time to put the title back on McIntyre, the presence of Strowman creates a scenario in which Lashley can retain without hurting the former champ's credibility as a main event performer.

Two straight losses diminishes McIntyre, particularly after he went down to the Hurt Lock at The Show of Shows. With Strowman involved, a Superstar who has been cycled in and out of the main event scene too many times to be considered a legitimate title threat, Lashley can score the win over him and keep his feud with The Scottish Warrior alive.

At some point, WWE will have to put the title back on the Scot or move on from the feud, but this feels like the most likely outcome for now as the company sets its stage for the summer.

    Prediction: Lashley retains

Universal Championship Match: Cesaro vs. Roman Reigns

2 of 5

In a perfect world, Cesaro would roll into WrestleMania Backlash and capture the Universal Championship.

This world, however, is dominated by the best thing in pro wrestling today: Roman Reigns.

For The Swiss Superman to realize his dream and pay off this most recent push, he would have to knock off a version of Reigns that has provided a spark for the WWE product.

While there have been few stories more interesting or long-awaited than Cesaro's climb to the main event scene, it feels wholly unlikely that he will dethrone a man who just knocked off both Daniel Bryan and Edge in one of the most vivid displays of dominance ever at WrestleMania.

There will likely be interference from Jimmy and Jey Uso to justify Cesaro losing his first singles match since May 2020 and to protect him for any further main event exploits.

For now, though, SmackDown is Reigns' world and everyone else—including The Swiss Superman—is just living in it.

    Prediction: Reigns retains

SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Bianca Belair vs. Bayley

3 of 5

It would be great if Bayley felt like a genuine threat to new SmackDown women's champion Bianca Belair. Instead, the entire storyline ahead of their match Sunday night has centered on The Role Model openly laughing at and mocking The EST of WWE.

She clearly doesn't see Belair as legitimate competition and fully expects to regain a title she once held for a record 380 days.

    But that won't happen.

After a historic WrestleMania main event in which she defeated Sasha Banks to win the title, Belair will make a believer out of The Role Model before moving on to the next threat to her championship.

This feels like the biggest foregone conclusion of the entire show, even if Bayley deserves so much better.

    Prediction: Belair retains

Triple Threat Match for the Raw Women's Championship

4 of 5

Rhea Ripley captured the Raw Women's Championship by defeating Asuka at WrestleMania, and she will defend it against The Empress of Tomorrow and Charlotte Flair in a Triple Threat match Sunday night.

Flair was conspicuous in her absence on wrestling's biggest night but has made quite the impression since returning 24 hours later, and she seems to have aligned herself with Sonya Deville. And it's because of the WWE official that she is not suspended and finds herself in this title match.

While it would be nice for Ripley to retain or the focus to be on Asuka (for once), Flair has dominated the build to this match and there's no reason to believe she won't capture the title. Again.

That would put Ripley and Asuka in chase mode, a role that probably fits both better anyway.

    Prediction: Flair wins the title

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match

5 of 5

Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode have survived every challenge put before them, whether in singles competition or multi-team matches. They have proved the class of the SmackDown tag team division and will put their titles on the line Sunday against Rey and Dominik Mysterio.

Despite their continued success and impressive victories, though, WrestleMania Backlash feels like the end of the road for The Dirty Dawgs.

WWE officials are likely chomping at the bit to deliver the first father-son tag team champions, and Sunday provides them with that opportunity.

The Street Profits and Alpha Academy are out of the way. It's now just the Mysterios and the champions, meaning a win for the challengers would be a bigger and more momentous occasion.

New champions will be crowned Sunday, perhaps in the opening match as a means to creating goodwill for the rest of the night's action.

Prediction: The Mysterios win the titles
